☆ Hamas hostages: what we know so far

Israel has responded by pounding Gaza with air strikes, killing thousands, and has said it will act to free the hostages while wiping out Hamas. Hamas has suggested the hostages could be swapped for approximately 6,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. Israel has said that there will be no end to the blockade of the enclave without freedom for Israeli hostages. Israel says the hostages were taken to Gaza but their exact whereabouts within the enclave are unknown, making their rescue more complicated. U.S. President Joe Biden said his administration is "workin’ like hell" to find American hostages held by Hamas.

MILAN, Oct 11 (Reuters) - Proxy adviser Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) said on Wednesday it was recommending that Mediobanca (MDBI.MI) investors vote in favour of the outgoing board's slate of nominees for the Italian bank's new board. The bank's board is elected for a three-year term and the current term expires on Oct. 28, when Mediobanca shareholders will vote on the renewal of the board, including the chief executive. Mediobanca's outgoing board has proposed 15 members for the full board, including a new term for current CEO Alberto Nagel and Chairman Renato Pagliaro. Mediobanca's outgoing board's slate of nominees "is adequately positioned to represent the long-term interests of institutional investors and carry out an effective oversight of the management's action", ISS said in a report. The current board has the support of a group of Italian investors, representing a combined 10.9% stake.

(Reuters) - Brazil's Sao Paulo state on Saturday sweetened the concession for the construction of a railway line connecting its capital to the city of Campinas and postponed the auction for the project, which is now earmarked at a cost of 13.5 billion reais ($2.6 billion). The bidding document for the public-private partnership linking the largest city in Latin America to Campinas, located 100 kilometers (62 miles) northwest of Sao Paulo, had been published in March. The state government, however, has now decided to raise its participation in the project to 8.5 billion reais, up from the previous 6 billion reais, it said in a statement. It also will reduce what it pays to the winning bidder during the 30-year concession to around 250 million reais, from 400 million reais. The winner will be whoever makes the lowest bid for payment by the state as part of an exchange-for-service provision.
