Bishop Carlton Pearson died Sunday night in hospice care in Tulsa due to cancer, said his agent, Will Bogle. Pearson was shunned by other evangelical leaders, branded a heretic and later became a United Church of Christ minister. The Israeli army denied the accusation and said the types of smoke-screen shell it uses do not contain white phosphorus. "These olives have not been harvested yet, meaning we lost the trees and the season," Hajj Hassan said. (But) we have olives trees that are 200 years old." Mohammad el Husseini of the south Lebanon farmers syndicate said the Lebanese government would not be able to compensate farmers for the losses, with the country four years into a devastating financial meltdown.

Longtime investor Steve Eisman is the latest Wall Street executive distancing himself from his alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, as the school's leadership comes under criticism for whether it's doing enough to fight back against antisemitism following the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. "The Big Short" investor told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Thursday that, after hearing fellow finance executive Marc Rowan was encouraging donors to close their checkbooks to Penn, he called the university and demanded his family's name be removed from a scholarship. "I do not want my family's name associated with the University of Pennsylvania, ever," Eisman said he told the university. Much of the frustration from donors is tied back to the Palestine Writes Literature Festival that took place on Penn's campus in September. Donors and fellow alumni signed an open letter to the university's leadership before the festival voicing their concerns about the event.

(AP) — A federal judge on Monday dismissed Brett Favre’s defamation lawsuit against fellow retired NFL player Shannon Sharpe, ruling that Sharpe used constitutionally protected speech on a sports broadcast when he criticized Favre's connection to a welfare misspending case in Mississippi. Discussion of Mississippi welfare spending on “Undisputed” took place after extensive news coverage about allegations of Mississippi's largest public corruption case. Favre is not facing criminal charges, but he is among more than three dozen people or businesses the state is suing to try to recover misspent welfare money. In addition to suing Sharpe, Favre filed defamation lawsuits earlier this year against White, the auditor, and sportscaster Pat McAfee, who is a former NFL punter. Favre has repaid $1.1 million he received for speaking fees from a nonprofit group that spent TANF money with approval from the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
