After nearly two years of friendship bracelets and sparkly bodysuits, Taylor Swift’s record-shattering Eras Tour is finally coming to a close. Her “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” movie, released in October, became the highest-grossing domestic concert film ever by the end of its opening weekend in North America. Starting in Arizona, the 2023 Eras Tour traversed a total of 20 cities across the United States over about five months. Tragedy briefly struck the Eras Tour when a 23-year-old fan died last year at her show in Rio de Janeiro amid extreme temperatures. The Summary Global temperatures in the last two years have been even higher than climate scientists expected. A new study offers a possible reason why: Cloud cover has decreased. If the reductions in low cloud cover aren’t a result of chance, it likely means Earth is warming even faster than scientists thought. One option is that a natural process is temporarily diverging from normal, causing a reduction in cloud cover. Still, many questions remain, said Zeke Hausfather, the climate research lead at the finance company Stripe and a research scientist at Berkeley Earth.

LONDON — The world is entering a “third nuclear age,” the head of the British armed forces has warned, with world-ending weapons once again spreading globally and international agreements to control them collapsing. He also cited China’s rapid development to become the world’s second fully-fledged nuclear competitor to the United States, alongside Russia. Global power is shifting and a third nuclear age is upon us,” Radakin said. Last year, Russia suspended its participation from New START, an agreement that sought to put verifiable limits on Washington’s and Moscow’s nuclear arsenals. And in 2019, then-President Donald Trump withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces, or INF, Treaty, accusing Russia of violating the agreement.

Amnesty International said Thursday that it had found evidence that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in its war in Gaza. It also comes as another blow to Israel’s contention that its conduct has been justifiable. The Amnesty International report adds to such claims against the government from inside and outside of Israel, including a former defense minister who said his country was committing war crimes and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, and the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces called the report's claims "entirely baseless." Amnesty International said Israel had committed acts prohibited by the Genocide Convention, an international treaty that criminalizes genocide, citing “killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm and deliberately inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.”The organization added that Israel has done so “with the specific intent to destroy Palestinians,” a group protected under the Genocide Convention.

"We believe it is key to remain invested and view any potential corrections as technical and temporary opportunities to get into the market," Julius Baer International's Portfolio Manager Aneka Beneby said. Against this backdrop, she observes a "come back" in the traditional 60/40 portfolio, where 60% of funds are invested in equities and the remaining 40% is allocated to fixed income. Overweight equities Looking ahead, Beneby is overweight on equities and prefers the asset class to fixed income given relatively high inflation levels. Her comments come as the consumer price index — a key metric measuring inflation levels — rose 2.6% in the U.S. in October, versus a year ago. Fixed income Unlike U.S. equity markets which have had a stellar rise, fixed income has been under pressure no thanks to high levels of volatility.

CNN —NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to the moon this decade amid a renewed international push for lunar exploration, is facing more delays. The issue relates to how the Orion capsule reenters Earth’s atmosphere upon returning from deep space, said NASA deputy administrator Pam Melroy. Prior to Trump taking office, NASA had targeted 2028 for the first moon landing. But in 2019, then-Vice President Mike Pence made the stunning declaration that the administration would direct NASA to drastically accelerate that timeline, aiming to conduct a crewed moon landing by 2024. Pence in part announced the decision to try to accelerate a US moon landing as part of a space race against China.
