Netflix's record-breaking boxing match between legend Mike Tyson and influencer Jake Paul cements the company's status as the winner in streaming, according to Pivotal Research Group. The firm raised its price target on Netflix to a Wall Street-high $1,100. Pivotal said the change accounts for higher medium- and long-term subscriber and revenue estimates following the bout. The event shown on Netflix notched 65 million live concurrent streams and 108 million total live viewers worldwide, making it the most-streamed global sporting event on record. NFLX YTD mountain Netflix shares in 2024 "Our view remains unchanged that Netflix has won the global streaming race as evidenced by YTD results/raised guidance (especially relative to its streaming peers' results), and this is what, in our opinion, winning looks like," the analyst said.

AdvertisementComcast plans to spin off some NBCUniversal cable channels. Comcast said it was exploring spinning off its cable networks late last month, with BI's Peter Kafka writing that the move served as yet another signal of cable TV's decline. Analysts said Comcast could increase its valuation by selling its cable networks, though they were unsure if it would actually work out, BI previously reported. Disney CEO Bob Iger in the past floated the idea of selling Disney's TV and cable channels. NBCU's various TV channels are tightly integrated, sharing back office functions and talent that would have to be untangled, for one.

The runup in the 10-year Treasury yield is proving to be more than a short-term fluctuation, and that is starting to draw nervous looks on Wall Street. US10Y 3M mountain The 10-year Treasury yield started to climb ahead of the election and has moved higher still after Donald Trump's victory. With the 10-year yield close to a key psychological level of 4.5%, there is concern that another move higher could lead to a downturn in the stock market. If the 10-year yield does break through the 4.5% level, technical patterns suggest it could make a significant climb. CNN —Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year than last but will still be 19% higher than before the pandemic, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving survey out Wednesday. The average cost of this year’s dinner for 10 people is $58.08, or about $5.80 per person, the survey found. The center piece of the Thanksgiving meal, the turkey, helped bring down the overall cost. But items like cubed stuffing and dinner rolls both increased by 8% because of higher labor costs, the AFBF said. The cost of the Thanksgiving dinner items varies based on location, the survey found.

New York CNN —Sheetz, the gas station and convenience store chain, is slashing prices at some of its pumps ahead of the busy Thanksgiving travel period. Sheetz and other chains periodically slash prices to generate buzz and sales, even at the expense of lower profit. Drawing in people with cheap gas could help give convenience store sales a boost. But it’s an odd time to cut gas prices, which are below $3 a gallon in 31 states and hovering at $3.06 a gallon nationally. “Gas prices, after two-plus years of sizzling because of outside factors like Covid and Russia, are finally coming back into balance,” GasBuddy’s Patrick De Haan previously told CNN.

Donald Trump's proposed tariffs will dent U.S. economic growth going into 2026, said Morgan Stanley's chief global economist Seth Carpenter. In the event that they are enacted all at once, they could result in a "big negative shock" to the economy, Carpenter told CNBC's Sri Jegarajah on the sidelines of Morgan Stanley's annual Asia Pacific Summit in Singapore. Carpenter, who maintained Morgan Stanley's base case of these tariffs being spread over 2025, said they would lead to higher inflation. "Then into 2026, we think growth starts to come down a great deal in the U.S. because of those tariffs and some of the other policies," he cautioned. Very clear, tariffs are a drag on growth for the U.S., not just for the countries that the tariffs are put on," Carpenter added.

Senate Democrats who pulled off victories even as President-elect Donald Trump won their states believe the Democratic Party can learn some lessons from their races as it grapples with losing control of Washington. Democrats still lost the Senate majority despite those victories, with Republicans flipping seats in Montana, Ohio and West Virginia. Democrats acknowledged Harris faced some headwinds in running a protracted campaign after taking over the ticket in late July. And while his party lost the White House, the House and the Senate, Schumer touted the Senate victories as more evidence that the party should be focused on the economy. Sometimes Democrats may be a little too solution-oriented, and people want to, first before you get to the solutions, hear empathy.
