Cairo AP —At least 17 people are missing after a tourist yacht sank in the Red Sea following warnings about rough seas, Egyptian officials said Monday. The governor of the Red Sea region, Amr Hanafy, said rescuers saved 28 people from the vessel south of the coastal town of Marsa Alam, and some were airlifted to receive medical treatment. The governorate received a report shortly before dawn Monday of a distress call made from the yacht, which had left Marsa Alam for a five-day journey. But the Egyptian Meteorological Authority on Saturday warned about turbulence and high waves on the Red Sea and advised against maritime activity for Sunday and Monday. Many tourist companies have stopped or limited traveling on the Red Sea due to the dangers from conflicts in the region.

Spanish retailer Mango is embarking on a bold expansion plan in the U.S. as it looks to shed its fast-fashion image and position itself as a premium brand. "We have also the opportunity to have bigger stores in the U.S.," he noted, adding Mango will open some multiline stores that feature men's and kids' items. Mango's sales grew more than 10% in the U.S. this year and the company expects to see double-digit growth again next year. The goal is part of a larger strategic plan at Mango focused on growing sales from about 3.1 billion euros annually to 4 billion euros by 2026. We also have 500 people taking care of the product from end to end," said Ruiz.

UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell speaks in the early hours at the conclusion of the UNFCCC COP29 Climate Conference on November 24, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Ambitious climate action often requires ambitious financing — be it a clean energy transition project or helping developing countries mitigate the effects of natural disasters. Nearly 50,000 people from 200 countries — including, for the first time, the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan — were in Azerbaijan for this year's United Nations Climate Change Conference, with the goal of reaching a critical deal on climate finance. Some of the highest human costs will be paid by smaller nations that are disproportionately affected by climate change, including Pacific Island nations whose existence is threatened by rising seas. But with COP29 weighed down by geopolitics and domestic turmoil, some were reluctant to attend at all.

I know, White House-wise, you’ve got a lot of more pressing things to worry about right now. But this is the holiday season — you deserve a chance to think about a happy tomorrow. When Hillary Clinton lost to Donald Trump, I consoled myself by pointing out, about 20 times a day, that she won the popular vote. No such luck this time around: Kamala Harris got creamed. Just before the election, I happily wrote a column celebrating “how relatively normal” the nomination of Kamala Harris seemed.

Earlier this season, the Washington Commanders had one of the most improbable, lucky wins of the year. But instead of going down on the ball and ending the game, Juanyeh Thomas returned the kick for a touchdown. Quarterback Cooper Rush, however, had his best game of the season, completing 24 of 32 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns — his first two-touchdown game of the season. "We didn’t play our best. We didn’t play complementary football,” McLaurin said postgame.

JERUSALEM/BEIRUT — Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement fired heavy rocket barrages at Israel on Sunday, and the Israeli military said houses had been destroyed or set on fire near Tel Aviv, after a powerful Israeli airstrike killed at least 29 people in Beirut the day before. Hezbollah, which has previously vowed to respond to attacks on Beirut by targeting Tel Aviv, said it had launched precision missiles at two military sites in Tel Aviv and nearby. Police said there were multiple impact sites in the area of Petah Tikvah, on the eastern side of Tel Aviv, and that several people had minor injuries. The Israeli military said a direct hit on a neighborhood had left “houses in flames and ruins.” Television footage showed an apartment damaged by rocket fire. “Gladiator II,” the sequel to the 2000 historical epic, also pulled in an estimated $55.5 million from more than 3,500 locations. With “Gladiator II” and “Wicked,” similar excitement had built up online for months, with many fans gearing up for what they deemed “Glicked” (pronounced glick-id). Similarly, “Gladiator II” and “Wicked” offered moviegoers the opportunity to lean into the contrasting themes. By comparison, Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II” is an action-packed film with swords, violent battles and ancient warfare. It was a chemical reaction that sparked the massive fire and toxic smoke plume at a lab in Georgia that threatened nearby communities and metropolitan Atlanta in September, according to the findings released by the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB). The board released its findings Friday following an investigation into the Sept. 29 chemical fire at a BioLab plant in Conyers, Georgia. The safety board said the main substances involved were a collection of chemicals that are commonly used for cleaning and disinfecting: bromochloro-5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione (BCDMH), trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) and sodium dichloroisocyanurate (DCCA). “The resulting massive plumes of toxic smoke contained chlorine and other hazardous substances and caused significant offsite impacts,” the CSB said. The board will provide its findings and recommendations in its final investigation report.

Government officials met with tribal leaders in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday to try to mediate a ceasefire between rival sectarian groups after days of clashes that have killed at least 68 people and injured dozens. The clashes started after gunmen attacked convoys of civilian vehicles on Thursday, killing at least 40, mostly Shi’ite Muslims. That sparked retaliatory attacks against Sunni residents and there have been pitched battles between armed groups from both sides. Armed Shi’ite and Sunni Muslims have engaged in tribal and sectarian rivalry for decades over a land dispute in Kurram district near the Afghanistan border. The delegation met with Shi’ite leaders and stayed overnight to meet with Sunni leaders on Sunday to try to broker a ceasefire deal and then move to resolve the matter, he said in a statement.

Many families have been effectively cutting a second rent check to send their kids to day care, according to new data from the Department of Labor. On average, families spent anywhere from $6,552 to as much as $15,600 on full-day care per child in 2022, the latest year with available data. While incomes also range widely throughout the country, households typically funnel between about 9% and 16% of their annual income on day care per child. But while child care costs help explain Americans’ economic dissatisfaction, an NBC News analysis of the Labor Department and election result data also hints at the limits of the issue politically. The most forbidding child care markets in 2022 voted two years later for Trump by higher margins than the nation overall, but so did many of the areas where child care was more affordable.

Target is offering a $20 Thanksgiving meal for four, including a small turkey, canned vegetables and stovetop stuffing mix.
