Lucknow, India AP —A poorly maintained and overcrowded bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in northern India on Monday, killing at least 36 people and injuring several others, officials said. The bus was carrying around 60 people, and more than 20 have been injured, said Deepak Rawat, a senior state government official. He added that preliminary information suggested that the dilapidated bus skidded before tumbling down a 60 meter- (200-foot-) -deep gorge. In July, at least 18 people died after a double-decker passenger bus collided with a milk truck in Uttar Pradesh state. In May, a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims skidded and rolled into a deep gorge on a mountainous highway in Indian-controlled Kashmir, killing at least 21 people.

Luxury sales in Japan surged due to a weakened yen and increased tourist spending. Brands like Hermès are thriving there by aligning with Japanese values of subtlety and quality. Rasmus Jurkatam/Getty ImagesBut in Q3, both LVMH and Kering reported a slowdown in luxury spending in Japan. Still, while the tourist spending may have faded somewhat, experts say Japanese consumers are emerging from a frugal era and spending on luxury themselves. But the Japanese aren't just splashing their cash anywhere — a bitter pill for some luxury brands to swallow.

It was the annual Kukur Puja festival in Nepal on Thursday, and dogs across the nation were draped in marigold garlands, marked with celebratory vermillion pigment and presented with overflowing platters of treats. Like Diwali in India, the five-day Hindu festival of Tihar, being celebrated this week in Nepal, is a festival of lights. Unlike Diwali, Tihar includes the worship of creatures, and Kukur Puja, on its second day, is dedicated to dogs. According to Hindu mythology, dogs are the messengers of Yamaraj, the god of death. All dogs, including pets, strays and working dogs, are worshipped.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas celebrated a “perfect Diwaloween,” Chopra wrote in an Instagram post Friday. This year, the start of Diwali — which celebrates good over evil and light over darkness by some South Asian religions — fell on the same day as Halloween. On years when the two holidays collide, which hasn't happened since 2016, many in the South Asian diaspora put them together for "Diwaloween." The Instagram post features Chopra Jonas and Jonas in traditional Indian garments, including a sari and a kurta, respectively. They held a Western ceremony, complete with a white gown, followed by a traditional Hindu ceremony the next day, in which Chopra Jonas wore red and ornate henna.

The fee turned up in September 2019, after Trump placed 25% tariffs on steel, and hasn’t gone away since. So far, the tariffs in force under both White Houses have cost Americans $79 billion, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation estimated this summer. The nation’s roughly 33 million small businesses employ nearly half the nation’s workers and generate more than 43% of the gross domestic product, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates. “Whether we like it or not, Asia is the bike manufacturing hub of the world,” said Zagata, who raised prices by between 18% and 22% after the Trump tariffs took hold. San Diego-based entrepreneur Nichole MacDonald said profit margins for her patented, 10-pocket Sash Bag have been thinning in recent years as material and freight costs have jumped, and tariffs aren’t helping.

FARUKH NAGAR, India — The words “Indian Fireworks” are spelled out faintly in Hindi on the disused storefront. The small factory and dozens of others in this town a couple of miles from India’s capital, New Delhi, once produced a dizzying array of fireworks. Now there are neither fireworks nor any shoppers at the abandoned workshops of Farukh Nagar, which had produced the pyrotechnics since before the country’s independence from British colonial rule in 1947. The town stands as a grim reminder of the government’s crackdown on pollution and what it deems dangerous fireworks. “No place celebrated Diwali like we did.”

"The differences between Trump and Harris are as wide as we have ever seen." Differences in trade policy specifically, he said, are going to "determine where growth and earnings take place around the world." In contrast to Trump's trade policy, reduced trade tensions under Harris could lead to gains for FedEx , which has advanced more than 8% this year. During that debate, Harris also accused Trump of gearing up to abandon support of Ukraine. To be sure, it wasn't the typical beat-and-raise quarter that Linde has become known for over the years. Linde Why we own it: The industrial gas supplier and engineering firm has a stellar track record of consistent earnings growth. It increased to $10 billion thanks to the largest gas project sale in company history. Other companies in the industrial gas space have a shakier track record at this, especially for clean hydrogen projects. Guidance For the fourth quarter, Linde expects adjusted EPS in the range of $3.86 to $3.96, implying 8% to 10% growth compared with the year-ago period.

Currently, more than 80% of India's energy needs are met by coal, oil and solid biomass, according to the International Energy Agency. On the demand side, the Indian government has aggressively pushed policies that favor vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), a derivative of liquified natural gas (LNG). Meanwhile, the number of households that could receive piped natural gas is more than 300 million. For instance, natural gas is a crucial ingredient for making fertilizers, and manufacturing it domestically helps increase food security. Seth is also optimistic about India's growth rate for its third and fourth quarters despite slower capital expenditure in some states.

President Harris would probably put more pressure on Israel to reach a cease-fire and open up talks with the Palestinians. Ukrainians worry that a President Trump would force a quick and dirty peace deal favorable to Russia. They hope a President Harris would continue to support them on the battlefield. The team of two men and one woman will replace the astronauts who have lived on the Tiangong space station for the last six months, conducting a variety of experiments and maintaining the structure. China built its own space station after being excluded from the International Space Station, mainly because of U.S. concerns over the overall control over the space program by the People’s Liberation Army, the Chinese Communist Party’s military arm. China’s moon program is part of a growing rivalry with the U.S. and others, including Japan and India. Besides putting a space station into orbit, the Chinese space agency has landed an explorer on Mars. China’s space authorities say they have measures in place in case their astronauts have to return to Earth earlier.
