He predicted 300,000 bpd to 400,000 bpd of increased shale production in 2023. Civitas grew volume about 4% year-over-year, and anticipates similar growth this coming year as it prioritizes free cash flow and balance sheet strength over growth. In the near-term, Sheffield warned oilfield inflation, which ran around 10% to 15% this year, will persist and limit production growth.

Nov 29 (Reuters) - U.S. shale producer Coterra Energy (CTRA.N) pleaded no contest for contaminating well water in Dimock, Pennsylvania, and will pay $16.29 million to construct a new means of water supply to its residents, the state attorney general said on Tuesday. "Under this historic settlement, Coterra will now pay to build a new public water line that will provide clean, reliable drinking water for generations to come," said Attorney General Josh Shapiro. The attorney general charged Coterra in 2020 after a grand jury investigation showed that drilling unconventional gas wells by the company had been responsible for methane pollution in the local water supply. Dimock was at the heart of the Marcellus Shale gas fracking boom that began in 2007. Residents complained that Cabot's drilling caused methane gas to seep into their wells, to the extent that the contaminated water even caught fire.

U.S. marginal production (+14.5 million bpd) captured nearly all the increase in global consumption (+14.8 million bpd) between 2009 and 2019. FRACKING TECHNOLOGYIn a narrow sense, the shale revolution refers to the widespread application of horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing techniques to increase output from shale and other tight rock formations. Like other technologies, however, shale production has eventually settled into a more mature and conservative phase, hastened by the traumatic shock to oil and gas markets during the coronavirus pandemic. In 2022, the Biden administration has tried to cajole domestic oil producers to increase their output, without much success. U.S. shale producers are expected to account for a much smaller share of global growth in petroleum production and consumption in the next few years.

A string of climate protests this year involved throwing food at famous pieces of art. But disruptive tactics won't sway those who aren't already concerned about climate change, a sociologist told Insider. "What I've found is that these tactics are likely to be viewed as positive by people who already believe that climate change is a serious social problem," Dylan Bugden, a sociologist at Washington State University who studies global climate change protests, told Insider. In Bugden's research, he's found disruptive and confrontational tactics aren't effective on people who are not already concerned about climate change. John Fetterman survived a bruising Senate campaign and overcame a serious stroke to prevail against Republican Mehmet Oz to claim his state’s open Senate seat Tuesday. Yet that stumble didn’t keep Fetterman from succeeding, because he was still better than Oz at selling himself as an authentic leader for Pennsylvanians. Fetterman has moved almost seamlessly from a 13-year run as the small-town mayor of Braddock to the lieutenant governorship in 2019 to the U.S. Senate today. Oz released his records a few days after a Post-Gazette editorial asked both candidates to do so, but Fetterman never did. Fetterman has also vowed to put a high priority on union rights and abortion rights, while Oz took the opposite stands.

Drill, baby, drill? After seeing oil demand plunge in 2020, U.S. producers’ mantra switched to “frack, baby, frack” as they paused drilling new rigs in favor of completing—or fracking—wells that had already been drilled. Drilling is just the first step in shale formations. Fracking, a process that involves the injection of water, sand and chemicals into the drilled well, actually gets the oil out of the ground.
The barrage helped Oz climb back into a race that Fetterman had led all summer — by double digits, according to at least two polls. Fetterman, whose speech and auditory processing were affected by his stroke, agreed to only one debate, on Oct. 25. His struggles were apparent, stoking alarm the next day among Democrats who worried the performance would scare away voters. Mehmet Oz takes part in a forum for Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidates in Camp Hill, Pa. on Apr. “My wife wants some vegetables for crudité,” Oz said, picking out broccoli, asparagus, carrots, guacamole and salsa for the platter of raw vegetables and dips.
As a result, political observers say, public school funding is effectively on the ballot Tuesday. “These groups have been demonizing what is being taught in public schools, and that’s the fastest way to erode faith that public schools work,” Rottinghaus said. President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama will appear on the campaign trail together Saturday for the first time since Biden took office. Democratic Senate hopeful John Fetterman and gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro will join the presidents at the event. Trump has endorsed the celebrity doctor and Republican Senate candidate Mehmet Oz as well as Republican candidate Doug Mastriano for governor. Oz's campaign launched attacks on Fetterman's health and questioned whether he is physically fit to take office. In turn, Fetterman's campaign has blasted Oz, a wealthy TV star, as an out-of-touch carpetbagger from New Jersey who got rich by promoting sometimes-dubious health information to his audiences.
That was an improvement over the previous year, but still not nearly enough given the threat the climate crisis presents for humanity, Hu told Insider. "I could spend 20 minutes talking about the destruction from climate change. "More people are aware of this climate crisis and that we have to do something about it because of our actions," Harris said. "Journalists don't report on the climate crisis like it is an emergency. Ridiculous stunts like the art action gets the climate crisis into the headlines and millions of people talking."
The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, fell three to 768 in the week to Oct. 28, energy services firm Baker Hughes Co said in its closely followed report on Friday. , ,Despite this week's rig decline, Baker Hughes said the total count was still up 224, or 41%, over this time last year. U.S. oil rigs fell two to 610 this week, while gas rigs decreased one to 156, their lowest since July. For the month, drillers added three rigs, after activating six oil rigs and cutting three gas rigs. That was the first monthly decrease in gas rigs since August 2021.
Why Democrats Are Losing The Midterms

Commentary on Tuesday night’s Pennsylvania Senate debate is mostly about Democrat John Fetterman ’s unfortunate struggles communicating in the wake of his May stroke. But for our money the most telling moment was Mr. Fetterman’s response to a question about his previous opposition to fracking for natural gas. It sums up why the election tide is moving against Democrats and may cost them the House and Senate. “I’ve always supported fracking,” Mr. Fetterman said when pressed by a moderator. He later added that, “I do support fracking and I don’t, I don’t—I support fracking, and I stand, and I do support fracking.”
Rishi Sunak faced the opposition in Parliament for the first time as Britain’s prime minister Wednesday, seeking to provide assurances that his new government would offer economic stability and continuity after his predecessor’s tax plans triggered market tumult. He also quietly reinstituted a moratorium on fracking that was part of the Conservative Party’s 2019 election platform. “We will have to take difficult decisions to restore economic stability and confidence,” Sunak told the House of Commons. Sunak is seen by Conservatives as a safe pair of hands they hope can stabilize an economy sliding toward recession — and stem the party’s plunging popularity. Sunak brought in people from different wings of the Conservative Party for his Cabinet.
“Obviously I wasn’t clear enough for you to understand this,” Oz, a heart surgeon, said in a comment directed at Fetterman. Calvello asserted that Fetterman did “pretty damn well.” Oz spokesperson Barney Keller pronounced it a “disaster” for Fetterman. “After months of trying to hide his extreme abortion position, Oz let it slip on the debate stage on Tuesday. I support fracking, and I stand and I do support fracking,” Fetterman responded when he was confronted with the answer from four years ago. “Why haven’t you apologized to that unarmed innocent Black man?” Oz asked Fetterman.
Oz, Fetterman disagree on student debt cancelation Both candidates were asked how they would address the cost of higher education, but neither provided a concrete plan. New UK PM Sunak commits to fracking ban - spokesman

During her short term as prime minister, Truss had lifted a moratorium on fracking, arguing last month that strengthening the country's energy supply was a priority. In parliament, Sunak was asked about fracking, and said he stood by a 2019 manifesto commitment on the issue. The Conservatives' 2019 policy prospectus said they would "not support fracking unless the science shows categorically that it can be done safely." Asked by a reporter if Sunak's comment meant that fracking was "back in the bin", Sunak's spokesman said "That's correct." "You've got the position set out in the manifesto, which the prime minister pointed to," the spokesman told reporters.
