MEXICO CITY (AP) — Growing up on the border between Mexico and the United States, Becky G spoke English, but sang corridos, boleros and mariachi in Spanish. All her life, she dreamed of an album that would honor her family’s roots and delve into those genres that she enjoys so much. Since childhood, she had talked with her grandparents about a project "totally inspired by regional Mexican music.” She decided it was finally time to focus on that project after the death of her grandfather Miguel, to whom she dedicated the track. “This project has a lot of content that is very personal,” she said of the visuals accompanying the album. Another of her inspirations is the bolero trio Los Panchos for the song “Los Astros”.

Ms. Burton, then its head of women’s wear, had been working with Mr. McQueen since 1996, when she started at his label as an intern after graduating from Central Saint Martins, the design school in London. Within a year of her succeeding Mr. McQueen as the brand’s creative director, Ms. Burton created the Princess of Wales’s ivory lace wedding gown, which became more famous than any dress designed by Mr. McQueen. Ms. Burton, who rose to lead a fashion house in an industry still largely dominated by men, helped Alexander McQueen evolve from a label beloved by fashion superfans into a modern luxury powerhouse. Kering, which bought a 51 percent stake in Alexander McQueen in 2001, is also reconfiguring its organization and its assets. The conglomerate has appointed Maureen Chiquet, a former chief executive at Chanel, to its board of directors and has named Francesca Bellettini, the chief executive of Saint Laurent, as the deputy chief executive of Kering’s portfolio of brands.

Chains Move Up in the World
  + stars: | 2023-09-07 | by ( Nazanin Lankarani | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
Chains, a foundational element of jewelry design, have been integral to crafting ornaments for as long as humans have been making interlocking rings to adorn our bodies. As Otto Jakob, a German master jeweler, said: “Chains are an archetype in jewelry, and they tell a symbolic and universal story with their own alphabet.”Evolving from Babylonian loop-in-loop techniques to the opulent pieces worn by medieval kings, from Coco Chanel’s gracefully draped chains to the chunky links embraced by rappers, chains have enjoyed an enduring appeal as a cornerstone of jewelry craftsmanship. This year, chains have been bold elements in both high jewelry and fine jewelry lines, reimagined as stand-alone pieces or pulling double duty to carry a pendant. Showcasing the artistry and imagination of their designers, these well-crafted pieces have gone from supporting to starring roles, becoming focal points in collections.

CNN —Far-right TV network One America News and one of its on-air personalities settled a defamation lawsuit brought by a former executive at Dominion Voting Systems, the election technology company that was falsely accused of rigging the 2020 election, according to new court filings. By negotiating a deal with Coomer, OAN is resolving one of several pending lawsuits tied to the 2020 presidential election that could lead to dire financial consequences for the small network. The conspiracy-peddling channel still faces two blockbuster defamation suits from Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic, voting technology companies that OAN falsely claimed had rigged the election against Trump. As a correspondent for OAN, Rion has been at the forefront of the network’s pro-Trump propaganda, and she hosted a special called “Dominion-izing the Vote,” which promoted debunked conspiracies about the 2020 election results. In the wake of the 2020 election, Dominion, Smartmatic and Coomer have transformed from relatively unknown figures to prominent players in the effort to seek accountability for Trump’s election lies.
