A Vermont armed robbery suspect who police say eluded capture in the past week in a vehicle, on a stolen bike, on foot and in a stolen sailboat was arrested Thursday after he was spotted in a kayak on a river, authorities said. When officers roused him, he fled at a high rate of speed, assaulting both officers with the vehicle, police said. That evening, he fled police on foot and then on a stolen bicycle before stealing a sailboat on Lake Champlain, police said. But after the sailboat rain aground at the base of lakeside cliffs, he fled, authorities said. An email was sent to police seeking to find out if Edson is being represented by an attorney.

CNN —Authorities raced to capture five million bees released yesterday after a truck carrying several crates of hives fell onto a roadway in Ontario, Canada, Halton Regional Police Constable Ryan Anderson told CNN. “Within a couple hours, the majority of the bees were safely back in their hives in their crates, and were safely loaded back on the trailer,” Anderson said. Beekeepers return bees in Burlington, Ontario, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023. Police say the initial beekeeper was stung repeatedly, but there were no serious injuries following the swarm of bees in the area. Anderson said it was a collective effort from residents, officers, and the local beekeepers to clear the roadway and allow everyone to get to their destination safely.

NEW YORK, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Symphony Technology Group (STG) and Francisco Partners are among the private equity firms competing to acquire media editing software maker Avid Technology Inc (AVID.O), according to people familiar with the matter. Avid, Goldman and Francisco Partners declined to comment. Palo Alto-based STG is a mid-market private equity firm focused on technology investments. Francisco Partners is a prolific tech investor, which has raised over $45 billion to date. Earlier this week, Francisco Partners teamed up with TPG Inc (TPG.O) to acquire New Relic (NEWR.N) for $6.5 billion.

German grocer Lidl opened its first US stores in 2017. It closed 11 underperforming stores this week, according to various news reports. The 12-month PPI reading had peaked at an annual rate of 11.6% in March 2022, its highest ever in data going back to November 2010. "Near-term price inflation may do little to contradict rising Fed official and market hope that a benign outcome is being achieved." For their part, Fed officials have indicated they see their benchmark rate rising by at least half a percentage point by the end of the year. So-called core inflation rose 0.2% in June and was tracking at a 4.8% annual rate, much higher than the Fed would like.

The downpour was generating flash flooding in five counties across northern Vermont, where up to three inches of rain have fallen so far, the Weather Service said. In central Vermont, Addison, Orange, Rutland and Windsor counties are at risk of a flash flood through the early afternoon.

The community land trust model was largely used in rural communities until the 1980s, when Cincinnati became the first city to have a land trust operate in an urban neighborhood. In 1984, Senator Sanders, who was then the mayor of Burlington, created one to help address his city’s housing crisis. In 2020, the East Harlem El Barrio community land trust bought four apartment buildings that had fallen into disrepair from the city for one dollar each. Around the country, activists have also used community land trusts in nontraditional ways. Steve King, the executive director of the Oakland Community Land Trust, said California has seen its number of land trusts double in the last few years.
