New York CNN —Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Ann Telnaes announced Friday she had resigned from The Washington Post after the newspaper refused to publish a satirical cartoon depicting billionaire Post owner Jeff Bezos on bended knee in front of President-elect Donald Trump. Bezos’ controversial decision led to a tidal wave of reader backlash, with The Post reporting more than 250,000 readers canceling their subscriptions. Last month, Bezos dined with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida and Amazon announced it would donate $1 million to Trump’s inauguration. Disney, the parent company of ABC, settled a defamation suit brought by Trump for $15 million in a highly scrutinized decision. And Facebook and Instagram parent Meta said that it was donating $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund after Zuckerberg met with Trump privately.

CNN —Teenage phenomenon Luke Littler became the youngest ever darts world champion on Friday when he swept past three-time winner Michael van Gerwen 7-3 in the final. Despite still being just 17, Littler entered this year’s PDC World Darts Championship as both the odds-on favorite and as a star who has transcended the sport after his unexpected run to the final last year. He quickly built up a 4-0 lead and, though Van Gerwen came back to win three sets, the 35-year-old Dutchman, who was previously the youngest ever world champion aged 24, never really seemed able to challenge him. Luke Littler has become darts' most famous player. For his opponent Van Gerwen, however, Littler is a generational talent.

“Babygirl,” the Nicole Kidman movie that opened on Christmas Day, starts with an orgasm. Kidman plays Romy, the poised, high-femme chief executive of a flourishing robotics company. But Romy is in the business of automation and her life, personal and professional, feels automated, too. An erotic thriller and a fairy tale, “Babygirl” moves like a moral tragedy, in which a woman is punished for her personal freedom. But it dares a happy ending — “literally and figuratively,” Halina Reijn, the movie’s writer and director, said cheekily — which is unusual.

CNN —LeBron James set yet another record on Friday as he surpassed the legendary Michael Jordan’s mark for the most 30-point games in NBA history, breaking the milestone in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 119-102 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. James scored 30 points on 13-of-20 shooting, reaching the mark with an 18-foot jumper reminiscent of Jordan deep into the fourth quarter to record his 563rd 30-point game, passing the record the Chicago Bulls star set in 2003. LeBron James scoring on a jumper over De'Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic of the Atlanta Hawks. According to NBA.com, just two other players have had 30-point games after turning 40 –Nowitzki had one and Jordan had four. Experts told BI the explosives detonated in an apparent attack outside a Trump hotel didn't appear sophisticated. Explosive experts told Business Insider the damage from the materials detonated inside a Tesla Cybertruck in front of the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas would likely have been worse if the items used had been more sophisticated. She said the decision was made harder by the rise of "undetectable" beauty treatments. People increasingly look inexplicably ageless, setting what she sees as even less attainable beauty standards. Still, it feels harder to avoid as aesthetic treatments and surgeries become more subtle and less detectable and, in turn, make everyone look inexplicably ageless — setting even less attainable beauty standards. So wanting to cling to our youth makes sense, and I don't shame anyone for having treatments like Botox. At the same time, aesthetic treatments are "much more acceptable now," she said.

Trying to get poolside lounge chairs and seats at crowded events can feel like an Olympic sport. I've often seen people sitting on floors just so they could participate in popular onboard events, like trivia. On every cruise I've been on, you've got to get up pretty early in the morning if you want a deck chair by the pool. Passengers stake their claim on loungers with towels and personal items — often before sunrise — meaning that if you snooze, you lose your opportunity to soak up the sun. Finding a seat can also prove challenging at popular onboard events, like trivia, where I've often seen participants resort to sitting on the floor.

has been fostering the passing game at the expense of the running game since at least the mid-2010s. But the dialectic of history is restless, and the running game is reasserting itself. Over each of the past four seasons, passing yards per game declined, and in the first few weeks of this season they dipped even further. In 2015, only seven players finished the regular season with more than 1,000 rushing yards. For years there has been a popular “Moneyball”-like theory that star running backs are overvalued.

Meanwhile, a massive fragment of a space object crashed to Earth in a remote village of Kenya. The space debris is just one of several pieces that have plummeted back to the planet. ESATens of thousands of identifiable pieces of space junk orbit Earth, along with potentially millions more that can’t be seen or tracked. “So we are heading towards the situation that we are always dreading.”The scenario, in which space debris collides and creates more debris, is called Kessler Syndrome. Eventually, the proliferation could make Earth’s orbit too clogged for satellites to orbit — or for space missions to launch.

His record largely reflects this effort – but the Iran hostage crisis has tended to obscure that Carter was otherwise a successful commander-in-chief on the foreign policy front. Within weeks of taking office, Carter wrote a letter of support to Andrei Sakharov, the leading Soviet dissident. Carter’s approach to American foreign policy based on rights and justice also informed his decision to return the Panama Canal to the Panamanians. In recent weeks, President-elect Donald Trump has publicly mused about getting the Panama Canal back, but since the US Senate has ratified the Panama Canal treaties and the Panamanian government has said it has no interest in handing the canal back to the US, the possibility of this happening seems quite remote. That said, Carter’s legacy as commander-in-chief cannot be judged solely by the US hostages held in Iran and the failed rescue effort.

"Neo-medievalism" is emerging as a consumer trend, according to creative agency Wonderhood Studios. With Brat Summer fading further into the rearview mirror, it's time to look ahead to the next consumer trend set to sweep the internet. Wonderhood examines data from social media, Google Ngram, and other sources to produce an annual consumer trends predictions report for its marketer clients. Colchester said the medieval trend taps into two prevailing consumer attitudes: A lust for nostalgia and the renunciation of an always-online culture. On Saturday, the United States of America’s clothier in chief met its commander in chief, as Ralph Lauren became the first fashion designer to receive the Presidential Medal of FreedomDressed in a tweed blazer, a knit necktie and squishy dark sneakers, Mr. Lauren, 85, was described in an introduction as “classic yet creative, timeless yet innovative.” He was praised for reminding “us of our distinct style as a nation of dreamers and doers.”Established by John F. Kennedy, the Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest civilian honor. It has been bestowed upon a host of cultural, corporate and political figures, including Babe Ruth, Mother Teresa, Julia Child, Warren Buffett, John McCain and Rush Limbaugh. If ever there was a fashion designer worthy of this award, it is Mr. Lauren. A son of the Bronx, Mr. Lauren marketed a preppy image to the upwardly mobile masses, building his eponymous company into a multimillion dollar corporation — one he remains executive chairman and chief creative officer of nearly a half-century after he founded it.
