Road House has become Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis. "Forget about the effect on the industry — 50 million people saw 'Road House' — I didn't get a cent, Jake Gyllenhaal didn't get a cent, [producer] Joel Silver didn't get a cent. Chelsea Norstedt left Penn State University in 2014 just two semesters shy of finishing her bachelor's degree in criminology. As she explored different career paths, she had a similar figure in mind. College graduates on average earn more than those without a four-year degree — but this so-called college wage premium is shrinking. Now, bachelor's degree holders earn about 75% more over their career than those without. At the same time, Norstedt monitored listings on job sites like LinkedIn and Indeed for any higher-paying office roles that did not explicitly require a college degree.

"I always tried to put a little bit aside, like change and dollar bills and whatnot. That's a problem that's going to stick around, as female "peak boomers" — Americans turning 65 between 2024 and 2030 — have, on median, $185,086 in retirement assets. Men in that group, comparatively, have $268,745, according to the Alliance for Lifetime Income and the Retirement Income Institute. Inspired by singer Charli XCX's seventh studio album "Brat," which came out last month, large swaths of social media users — primarily Gen Zers — are celebrating the carefree, rebellious lifestyle depicted throughout the record. The trend gained more attention on Sunday after Charli XCX posted "Kamala IS brat" to social media platform X, referencing U.S. vice president Kamala Harris' attitude, age and energy as she campaigns to become the country's first-ever woman president. For Charli XCX, whose given name is Charlotte Aitchison, the brat takeover is unexpected — the album was risky, and could've flopped. But Charli XCX didn't enjoy the songs: The record represented the "vanilla palatable flatness" that pop music embodied at the time, she told The Face in February. "I wasn't born to do radio one liners," said Charlie XCX, who's been releasing music since age 19.

I now realize this mother was an early adopter of parenting scripts, something I had never heard of at the time, though they have now become ubiquitous. AdvertisementWords matter when talking to kidsThe spoken message behind parenting scripts is that parents can optimize how they speak to children, supporting their children's development and validating their feelings. The unspoken message behind parenting scripts is that much of parents' reflexive language toward their children is pernicious. Children need their parents to be congruent in their interactions, even if they might misspeak from time to time. Parents need to trust that, at the end of the day, their hearts are in the right place — so much so that they may even want to speak from it.

However, Ford went 0 for 2 on Wednesday as an old enemy in warranty expenses returned to bite the Blue Oval. And it's an even more unfortunate setback because Ford management said on its April earnings call that the company has made "real progress" on its goal of making better vehicles. The best story at Ford remains Ford Pro , the unit that houses the company's fleet and commercial vehicles. But last quarter management said the business was tracking toward the higher end of the range, and that no longer appears to be the case. It was because I knew that working in Big Tech in Silicon Valley would change me into a different person and I'd never move back. It's been 11 years since then, and I think I've gotten happier with my life here now that I've worked at a few different jobs in Big Tech. But despite this, working in the US suits me better than working in India because of my individualistic mindset. Some people back home think very competitively — they've hinted that they think I'm just plain lucky, and if they had the opportunity, they'd do it too and much better. Even if I had all the resources to go back to India, it'd be different — I've grown apart from who I was.

When I was a little girl, I used to ask my mom to adopt another child so that I could have an older sister. But once I started to get older (and learned how to be self-conscious), I wanted an older sibling to "show me the ropes," in a sense. And now, as a young woman who successfully (I hope) made it through being a teenager, I'm happy with that. I didn't need an older sibling figure to look up to, or one to look out for me. Even though I'm highly independent, I still ask my parents how to do things (like filing insurance claims).

Take activist hedge funds, which buy up a percentage of a company's stock (or an asset) and then use their weight to push for operational changes. Or there would be a fun, splashy war between the hedge fund and the C-suite. Hedge funds rely on outperforming the market when times are hard and it's easier to find pockets of outperformance and exploit them. Of course, hedge funds are having a hard time coming up with a crew because the clients have changed too.
