The Charter deal is a coup for WBDWall Street has had little confidence in Zaslav and company lately. CNN —Tiger Woods underwent successful back surgery, he announced on Friday, after repeated back spasms and pain contributed to his injury-marred season. The 48-year-old announced on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that he had undergone microdecompression surgery of the lumbar spine for nerve impingement in the lower back. “The surgery went smoothly, and I’m hopeful this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout most of the 2024 season,” Woods said. However, he missed the cut in the last three attempts at the sport’s four flagship events. Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi of the Hospital of Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed the surgery and “deemed it to be successful,” Woods’ statement added.

CNN —Amber Ruffin has some thoughts about those who think that CNN isn’t necessarily the best home for comedy. “I’d say they’re right,” Ruffin told CNN in an interview this week. Based on a British series of the same name, entertainers, political figures and comedians will appear as guests for quick-witted conversation and games. “Anybody who has a sense of humor about the world and has a sense of humor about themselves, I think those are the only prerequisites,” he said about possible team members. “If you can laugh the world and laugh at yourself, I think you’re gonna fit in very well.”“Have I Got News For You” premieres Saturday, September 14 at 9 p.m.

Former New York Federal Reserve President Bill Dudley said there was a strong case for a 50 basis point interest rate cut in the United States. "I think there's a strong case for 50, whether they're going to do it or not," he said at the Bretton Woods Committee's annual Future of Finance Forum in Singapore. He said rates were currently 150-200 basis points above the so-called neutral rate for the U.S. economy, where policy is neither restrictive nor accommodative. That research, published in the journal Nature, overturned a century-old idea that the stone came from current-day Wales. The Altar Stone, the largest of the bluestones used to build Stonehenge, lies at the heart of the ancient monument in southern England. “The Altar Stone is anomalous in many ways to both the bluestones and the sarsens at Stonehenge,” Bevins said. But discovering that Wales was unlikely to be the origin site for the Altar Stone was a game changer, Bevins said. The researchers compared their findings with samples from the Altar Stone and found no mineralogical connection between the rocks.

A grueling manhunt for the suspect wanted in a highway shooting spree stretched into its fifth day as authorities said they believe he retreated deep into a forested swath of southeastern Kentucky with no indication he has fled elsewhere. “There’s so many people that have eyes on this investigation around the world that now we should have gotten a pretty good tip that he exited the woods,” Pennington told reporters 72 hours into the operation. Amid the search, authorities went to his home in Woodbine, about 23 miles from the shooting site, to collect evidence. The search by foot remains daunting, Pennington said, as temperatures have stayed above 80 degrees during the day. “I hope he doesn’t have water, and I hope he doesn’t have food," Pennington said at a news conference Tuesday.

WASHINGTON — Allies of Donald Trump see Tuesday's debate as a pivotal moment for the Republican presidential nominee — a chance to shore up support and turn the corner from Kamala Harris' post-nomination "honeymoon." Trump allies are hopeful that the debate will cap a turnaround from the recent weeks of tumult and help him enter the fall on a competitive footing. “Everyone on Team Trump firmly believes that we’re better-positioned to win,” said a source close to Trump. Harris poses a different set of challenges for Trump on the debate stage. “The Democrats and the Harris campaign have done an amazing job at messaging and hitting at the right time.

Posts with obviously AI-generated images and confusing captions sometimes receive thousands of likes and hundreds of comments and shares. “The Facebook Feed … at times shows users AI-generated images even when they do not follow the Pages posting those images. Experts who track this kind of online behavior say there are likely several different kinds of actors behind the Facebook spam, with varying motives. Meta also automatically labels AI-generated images created with its own tools. However, there are still ways for users to strip out that metadata (or create AI images without it) to evade detection.

Read previewThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Daniel Beiler, 33, an emergency medical technician and aid volunteer who grew up in a traditional Amish community in Pennsylvania. An Amish family walks through a field. He taught me that there were other Amish people questioning things — and eventually the Amish system couldn't hold us anymore. When a storm comes through and the electric goes out, life kind of slows down, and I don't like that feeling. My family don't have any technological restrictions now, but we haven't embraced too much trash culture.
