CNN —A federal judge on Tuesday ordered some Biden administration agencies and top officials not to communicate with social media companies about certain content, handing a win to GOP states in a lawsuit accusing the government of going too far in its effort to combat Covid-19 disinformation. In a preliminary injunction issued by US District Judge Terry Doughty, the judge ordered a slew of federal agencies and more than a dozen top officials not to communicate with social media companies about taking down “content containing protected free speech” that’s posted on the platforms. The injunction notes that the government can still communicate with the companies as part of efforts to curb illegal activity and address national security threats. The lawsuit brought by the Missouri and Louisiana attorneys general in 2022 represents a novel way to pursue “censorship” claims accusing the Biden administration of effectively silencing conservatives by leaning on the private social media companies. The judge had previously ordered the administration to produce documents identifying government officials and the nature of their communications with social media platforms.

A white powder was found inside the White House late Sunday, which led to a temporary closure. Firefighters identified the material as "cocaine hydrochloride," the Washington Post reported. The Secret Service told Reuters an "unknown" item was indeed found there. The material was found in the West Wing, the spokesperson added, which is a part of the White House connected to the executive mansion, where the president lives. According to the Washington Post, a Washington DC firefighter on the hazardous materials team said the test results for the substance showed "a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride."

Student loan experts expect the administration to provide a safety net for borrowers, giving them extra time — a grace period of at least three months — to send in their payments. So if a borrower could not make a payment within that period, a late payment would not be reported to credit reporting bureaus. The Education Department released the proposal in January, and a final rule — which may have been tweaked from the initial proposal — was sent to the White House for review on May 23. That means the final version of the plan is closer to being published, which could happen in the coming weeks (You can find our guide on the initial proposal here). But even after the final plan is released, getting it up and running by October will be challenging.
