Rick Kot, an executive editor at Viking who oversaw production on the book, told me, “Publishing books in two volumes is difficult just as a commercial venture. Nor does it inspire the “five takeaways” treatment that juicy new memoirs by Britney Spears and Jada Pinkett Smith have. These are my thoughts.” She also considered those other Streisand titles, the ones by other people. Sydney Chaplin (one of Charlie’s kids) played the original Nick Arnstein during her “Funny Girl” Broadway run; they shared a flirtation that Chaplin wanted to consummate and that Streisand wanted to keep professional. It’s that Barbra Streisand endured a parade of harsh workplaces yet never stopped trying to make the best work.

We are actually going to be looking at this in the very early days of generative AI. casey newtonYeah, this feels like one of the big questions in AI right now. rebecca tushnetSo I see why you say that’s strange, but in fact, it’s exactly how you would make a general-purpose tool. But now, finally, along come these new technologies to take them down a peg, and they’re actually going to have to work for a living. So maybe they’re slapping, like, AI sort of things around the stories that they’re aggregating.

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly reign over the anti-obesity drug market, and don't expect this duopoly to end soon, analysts say. All this goes on amid robust demand for Novo's semaglutide, which is sold as Ozempic for type 2 diabetes and as Wegovy for weight loss, and Lilly's tirzepatide, which hopes to receive regulatory approval for weight loss this year. Orforglipron is an oral drug Eli Lilly is developing. It has several other compounds in the pipeline, but Suvannavejh expects the weight loss drug to receive increased attention. "This range would also be competitive with LLY's orforglipron [an oral GLP-1 drug] weight loss at day 28," Smith said.

Clouds may spoil the view for some, and the eclipse may even affect the weather, but never fear: NASA will share live streams from multiple locations within the path of the annular eclipse. Both Jelling runestones also named a royal figure: Queen Thyra, mother of then-reigning King Harald Bluetooth. In recent years, archaeologists have revised prior interpretations of Viking warrior burials as exclusively male, finding that Viking women were fighters, too. The new findings add to the picture of influential Viking women holding prominent roles in statecraft as well as on the battlefield. Fewer than 10 runestones in Denmark from the pre-Christian era mention women at all — and four of those are of Queen Thyra. “Runestones in Denmark were mostly erected in honour of men, but Thyra is commemorated on more runestones than any other person in Viking Age Denmark,” Imer said.

Mysterious gold foil figures found in Norway

The tiny pieces — intricately detailed gold foil figures discovered during excavations of a pagan religious temple — are a rare find in Norway. A total of 35 gold foil figures have been found at the Hov temple site. The remains of the Hov temple were uncovered in 1993 along with two gold figures. The five latest pieces uncovered were buried under the temple's walls and within post holes of the structure, leading researchers to believe the gold figures were placed there intentionally. The gold foils were pressed into a stamp dye made of bronze, similar to the process of making a coin, according to Watt.

“This is yet another shift away from the image of unsophisticated barbaric Vikings swinging their swords around,” said Mads Dengsø Jessen, a senior researcher with the National Museum in Copenhagen. Political Cartoons View All 1199 ImagesThe museum said glass windows were for the upper echelons of society and religious use, as was the case in the rest of Europe. Dengsø Jessen said there may have been glass windows in the Vikings' vast hall buildings. Cable makers are green investing’s dark horses

An electrical power pylon with high-voltage power lines is seen next to wind turbines near Weselitz, Germany November 18, 2022. Moving away from fossil fuels will require laying thousands of new and stronger power lines carrying electricity from source to end users. Putting the additional earnings on Prysmian’s expected EBITDA multiple for 2026 of 8 times would generate an additional enterprise value of 2 billion euros, nearly 20% above today’s 11.6 billion euros. One potential snag is that cable makers’ annual capacity for high-voltage cables is currently only 6 billion euros per year. The volume of high-voltage cable orders has risen to more than 10 billion euros last year from around 3 billion euros in 2019, according to industry and analyst estimates.

Sept 28 (Reuters) - Market intelligence platform AlphaSense has raised $150 million in a fresh round of funding that boosted its valuation to $2.5 billion, underscoring strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) startups. Big Tech companies including Amazon (AMZN.O) and Microsoft (MSFT.O) have been pouring billions into securing ties with AI startups that are reshaping their industry. When asked if AlphaSense has any plans for an initial public offering, CEO Jack Kokko told Reuters the company has "plenty of capital more than we could hope for" right now. Investing in new initiatives, especially in generative AI, is a focus too as the company explores expanding its product offering, Kokko said in an interview. The Viking Star cruise ship is moored at Greenwich with the City of London financial district in the distance, in London, Britain, August 29, 2023. It is absolutely the time for action over words," Alasdair Haynes, CEO of Aquis Exchange, a share trading platform, and chair of financial industry body TheCityUK's Business Council, told Reuters. The main problem for trade bodies is the vast scope of Britain's financial services industry, with each sub-sector and TheCityUK presenting their own reform priorities and ideas, often overlapping. In the meantime, top financial sector executives running global teams of bankers and traders are increasingly bewildered by Britain's inability to make faster progress on a matter of such economic significance. NICE, France, Sept 15 (Reuters) - England face Japan in the Rugby World Cup in Nice on Sunday hoping to avoid any sort of repeat of one of the country's lowest sporting moments when the national soccer team were humbled in the city by Iceland at the 2016 Euros. The footballing disaster was the final act for manager Roy Hodgson, paving the way for Gareth Southgate to start the rebuilding job that took England to a World Cup semi-final and a penalty shoot-out final defeat in the last Euros. England's rugby team had gone through a similar process eight months earlier as their pool-stage exit from their own World Cup in 2015 after Twickenham defeats to Wales and Australia spelled the end for Stuart Lancaster. It was a brilliant performance and, coming on the back of a Six Nations title earlier in the year, there was huge confidence surging through the England set-up. They have struggled though to reproduce anything like that form since though and the chances of another shock look slim - even in Nice.
