Since the Labor Day holiday, airline traffic stalled out in September as the summer vacation season came to an end. Flight bookings have shown three straight weeks of steady improvements following a modest slow down after Labor Day, according to the report. The increased volume in international bookings more than offset a drop in prices for global travel, according to BofA.

WASHINGTON, Oct 17 (Reuters) - The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screened 2.49 million air passengers on Sunday, the highest daily number since February 2020. The number was however below the 2.61 million screened on the same day in 2019. The Sunday checkpoint traffic was the highest since Feb. 11, 2020, when TSA screened nearly 2.51 million passengers and comes as airlines reported business travel is increasing. The figure is just above the number screened on July 1. Travelers can save money on unconventional flying days. The average round-trip domestic airfare for trips between November 20 and November 24 this year cost $350, according to the Hopper travel booking app. Rising jet fuel prices, fewer scheduled flights, and pent-up travel demand have all contributed to the higher prices, Hopper said. On average, Black Friday fares are $175 less than the weekend days after Thanksgiving, according to Hopper. Hopper expects airline tickets to rise $10 per day starting Nov. 1 with domestic round-trip prices peaking at $550 for last-minute bookings.

The rocky summer travel season ended on a high note during Labor Day weekend with a surge in air travelers and relatively smooth operations across the U.S., according to data released on Tuesday. The Transportation Security Administration screened nearly 8.76 million people from Friday through Monday, surpassing pre-pandemic levels of the same weekend in 2019, when it screened 8.6 million people. Airlines had reduced their schedules this summer to help stop spiraling flight delays as they grappled with labor shortages. Flight disruptions over the popular travel weekend were also below recent trends, helped by decent weather. Hospitality workers have been quitting their jobs over wages, benefits, and working conditions. It means some hotels have been forced to widen their candidate pools — with Accor, Europe's largest hotel chain, turning to workers without experience or even résumés. Some days, Accor hotels have been forced to stop serving lunch or even completely close their restaurants because they don't have enough staff, Bazin said.
