The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are arriving four months past their due date on Monday night at the Peacock Theater, coming after a year of historic Hollywood turbulence in an industry whose upheavals are evident everywhere. Anderson has been tasked with hosting at a time when emceeing awards shows is hardly a coveted job, especially after comic Jo Koy was widely roasted for his Golden Globes performance last weekend. Both could make history, with Pascal becoming the first Latino to win best actor in a drama and Ramsey the youngest to win best actress. “The Bear” is up for Emmys for its first season, after having already won key Golden Globes for its second. ---For more on this year’s Emmy Awards, visit: https://apnews.com/hub/emmy-awards

Mayor Fletcher Bowron of Los Angeles welcomed people to the first Emmy Awards ceremony, which was held Jan. 25, 1949, at the Hollywood Athletic Club. Before there was a Peak TV era, before there were performances from Mary Tyler Moore, Cloris Leachman or Julia Louis-Dreyfus, there was Judy Splinters. “Judy Splinters,” a children’s television show hosted by a 20-year-old ventriloquist named Shirley Dinsdale and her puppet — wait for it — Judy Splinters, was nominated for the so-called most popular program at the very first Emmy Awards. All nominated shows had to have been filmed in Los Angeles, and the award show itself was only broadcast on a local station in Los Angeles. “It was so brand-new,” Dinsdale told The Los Angeles Times in 1998.

After being postponed because of labor strikes in Hollywood, the Emmy Awards returned on Monday night and with the ceremony came what might be the television industry’s biggest fashion show. Though the carpet was gray, there was no shortage of red, a color that also proved quite popular at the Golden Globes this month. (Ms. Waterhouse’s sat beneath her baby bump.) The ceremony was honoring television programs broadcast last year, which gave viewers a chance to catch up with casts like that of “White Lotus” season two. Amid a carpet full of feathers, beads, sequins, diamonds and plenty of well-tailored suits, the following 15 outfits stood out from the rest (for better or worse).

NEW YORK (AP) — Joyce Randolph, a veteran stage and television actress whose role as the savvy Trixie Norton on “The Honeymooners” provided the perfect foil to her dimwitted TV husband, has died. There is “literally no one there.”That’s because there is, effectively, no one working at Cheddar News, the once spirited financial news-focused streaming television network. “It feels like the end,” a person familiar with the matter candidly told me. By the time Archetype acquired Cheddar in December, only a couple dozen or so editorial staffers remained at the outlet, people familiar with the matter told me. Soon after signing those agreements, however, Archetype sent furlough notices to many of the remaining employees. “There is certainly a death happening as we speak,” one of the people familiar with the outlet’s state of affairs told me.

“Bye Bye Tiberias” first premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, more than a month before the start of the latest Israel-Hamas war, sparked by the militant group's deadly incursion into Israel on Oct. 7. It is the only Palestinian film in competition in Marrakech, where festival organizers have, unlike past years, not held screenings in a popular square that has seen protests against the war. Soualem declined to answer a question about how today's war affected reactions to her film. That year, the British ordered the family to leave their home in Tiberias, a city on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. “These images are the treasure of my memory that I don’t want to fade,” says Soualem, who narrates the documentary.

The Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O) chief executive will have to more than double the value of the media company if he wants to collect a lavish $200 million compensation package awarded when Discovery agreed to merge with Warner Media in 2021. The news sent shares plunging 19%, the largest one-day drop since Discovery merged with Warner Media. Its current value is over $18 billion when applying Bernstein’s multiple of 8 times EBITDA. At the end of September, the company had net leverage – after deducting $2.4 billion cash – of 4.2 times EBITDA. Shares of Warner Bros Discovery fell 19% on that day.

The jingle, last used in the mid-2000s, became an earworm for anyone watching TV during the ’90s when it seemingly blanketed the airwaves nonstop. Chili’s is hoping that nostalgia will draw renewed interest in the restaurant chain that’s in the midst of a turnaround. The new TV ad, featuring Boyz II Men singing a modernized version of the jingle, will also be promoted on social media this month. “It feels natural for us to rerelease the ‘Baby Back Ribs’ jingle and pay homage to Chili’s legendary menu item in a nostalgic way,” the group said in a release. The Fed's monetary policy "is in a very good place" and "the news on inflation has been fairly good," Daly said in a CNBC interview. "There's a lot of demand for certainty that we would say we're done or we're definitely hiking, but the truth is, we don't know," Daly said. If financial conditions continued to ease, Daly said that would merit Fed attention. What's more, Daly noted that recent churning in the bond market was unlikely to be driven by some sort of underlying problem. "Bond yields move around for a variety of reasons, and there's a lot of uncertainty out there," Daly said.

Ukraine's General Staff, in its evening report, said its forces had beaten back 15 attacks near Kupiansk in the northeast and 18 attacks near Maryinka further south, where battles have raged for months. Barabash said Russian troops had been targeting the town's vast coking plant with artillery for the past week. Occupied briefly when Russian-backed separatists seized large areas of eastern Ukraine in 2014, the town was retaken by Ukrainian forces who subsequently erected substantial fortifications around it. Russian accounts of the fighting said Moscow's troops had launched strikes on Ukrainian men and equipment in villages near the eastern town of Bakhmut, seized by Russian forces last May.
