Profitability has remained elusive, as WeWork grapples with its expensive leases and corporate clients cancelling because some employees work from home. In a filing with the New Jersey bankruptcy court, WeWork listed estimated assets and liabilities in the range of $10 billon to $50 billion. Under its founder Adam Neumann, WeWork grew to be the most valuable U.S. startup worth $47 billion. WeWork engaged in debt restructurings, yet this was not enough to stave off its bankruptcy. Shortly before WeWork filed for bankruptcy, Neumann said in a statement, "I believe that, with the right strategy and team, a reorganization will enable WeWork to emerge successfully."

CNN —Abortion rights are on the ballot Tuesday as Americans head to the polls for state and local races that will set the stage for next year’s presidential election. (Both oppose abortion rights.) Abortion (literally) on the ballot in OhioThe 2022 midterm elections showed that when abortion rights are on the ballot, voters overwhelmingly favored protecting or expanding access. This is the only abortion rights ballot initiative before voters this year. Though not explicitly on the ballot, abortion has featured prominently in the campaign, with Beshear arguing that Cameron will double down on the commonwealth’s already harsh restrictions.

All 120 seats in the New Jersey Legislature are on the ballot. Republicans, bolstered by a strong showing in 2021, are hoping to gain seats or even win a majority in either the Assembly or the Senate, something that has not happened in two decades and would require virtually every competitive race to cut their way.

Journal Editorial Report: Pushback emerges among donors and employers. Images: AP Composite: Mark KellyPhil Murphy huffed and he puffed, and a giant wind boondoggle blew the New Jersey Governor down. That’s the story of another failed green-energy project, as the follies keep being exposed. The renewable energy firm Ørsted last week backed out of two megaprojects along the Jersey shore that it started planning in 2019. The company says cost overruns have made them impossible, and it wrote off $4 billion for the first nine months of this year.

OCEAN CITY, N.J. (AP) — Offshore wind power company Orsted is trying to get out of a $300 million guarantee it agreed to pay New Jersey in the event it failed to build its first wind farm off the state's coast. Last Tuesday, the Danish firm scrapped its Ocean Wind I and II projects in southern New Jersey, saying the projects were no longer financially feasible. It also was obligated to pay an additional $200 million toward the development of the offshore wind industry in New Jersey. Orsted wrote off $4 billion last week, due largely to costs associated with the cancellation of its two New Jersey projects. New Jersey still has several other offshore wind projects in various stages of development, with four new proposals submitted in August alone.

In total, the cancellations equate to nearly one-fifth of President Joe Biden’s goal of 30 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2030. Despite the setbacks, offshore wind continues to move forward, the White House said, citing recent investments by New York state and approval by the Interior Department of the nation’s largest planned offshore wind farm in Virginia. Hardy spoke at the American Clean Power industry group’s offshore wind conference in Boston last month on a panel with Morris. Phil Murphy, has established increasingly stringent clean energy goals, moving from 100% clean energy by 2050 to 100% by 2035. “Offshore wind is a lot bigger than Ørsted.”The first U.S. commercial-scale offshore wind farms are currently under construction: Vineyard Wind off Massachusetts and South Fork Wind off Rhode Island and New York.

Construction of the long-delayed rail tunnel under the Hudson River is about to speed up, as the project gets an additional injection of $3.8 billion in federal funding. Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader, will announce the latest grant from Washington on Friday, just before he and Pete Buttigieg, the transportation secretary, are scheduled to proclaim the start of work this month on the next phase of the $16.1 billion tunnel on Manhattan’s West Side, known as the Gateway project. This new, early phase of the project involves constructing a concrete casing for trains to pass through under the Hudson Yards section of Midtown Manhattan, between the river’s edge and Pennsylvania Station. On the New Jersey side of the river, work is scheduled to begin, also this month, on the realignment of a highway so that the digging of the tunnel can begin. Plans laid out by the project’s sponsor, the Gateway Development Commission, call for two giant boring machines to grind their way through the cliff, under the river and into the bedrock of Manhattan.

(AP) — As the United States injects hundreds of billions of dollars into clean energy through its signature climate law, known as the Inflation Reduction Act, criticism is growing louder about where, how and whether new development should be allowed. MIT is offering a first-of-its-kind course that trains students to be mediators in conflicts over clean energy projects. Students get academic credit and hands-on experience addressing real-world dilemmas, while the community and developer get free help resolving conflict. In one recent Friday afternoon class, students debated everything from environmental justice concerns to misinformation to oil companies. He hopes to create a similar national consortium of universities serving communities and projects in their respective regions regarding clean energy.

SharkNinja says its frying pans have a stronger nonstick coating because they're made at 30,000°F. SharkNinja claims that its nonstick pans are manufactured under a maximum temperature of 30,000°F, which is almost three times hotter than the surface of the sun. The company says the super hot temperature ensures that the nonstick coating on its pans is more resistant than competitor pans made at lower temperatures. Brown purchased two 12-inch, nonstick frying pans made by SharkNinja in 2021, according to the lawsuit. As Brown's case unfolds, Mon said he's waiting to see whether SharkNinja will present evidence on additional foods they've tested.

Mike Garcia, who represents a competitive district in California, told CNN of the inquiry. October 26 - It hasn't been a bad start to the season for the New Jersey Devils. The starts to games, however, are another story, and one they'll look to rewrite when they host the Buffalo Sabres on Friday in Newark, N.J. The Devils have been outscored 8-2 in the first period through their six games this season. Sabres coach Don Granato tinkered with his lines last week, putting Thompson between Dylan Cozens and Jordan Greenway. With good performances from Eric Comrie (two games) and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (one game) in his absence, the team won't push him.

The Jordan campaign for speaker may turn into a liability for Republican members in districts won by Biden in 2020. Jim Jordan is a radical election denier who does not represent the values of this district and Tom Kean Jr. should be ashamed of his vote. I asked Michael Olson, a political scientist at Washington University in St. Louis, about the possible costs of a Jordan vote for these 12 Republicans in Democratic-leaning seats.
