But figuring out how to price your items can require experimentation — which can mean getting it wrong at first. Dinh decided in March 2022 to set up her own shop on Shopify when Etsy increased its transaction fees for sellers . An Amazon seller increased his prices until his sales stoppedBen Alistor started selling tanning mitts on Amazon FBA as a side hustle with his partner in June 2018. “Tammy had a Wednesday Addams flair: jet-black hair, a biker jacket and Doc Martens with yellow laces,” he said. For three years, they were on and off, the off times because of his heavy drinking. She traveled to see him in Alaska when possible, and after one visit, she became pregnant. In January 1996, with one semester of college left to finish, she left her studies and moved to Alaska to be with him. “I sometimes wonder if becoming pregnant was a way of escaping the void of life after graduation,” she said.

Chicago-based Conagra Brands must pay out $3.1 million in compensatory damages and $4 million in punitive damages to Reese, according to the Cook County Circuit Court verdict. Consumers can check if their cooking spray cans are vented by looking at whether the bottom of the can has four small U-shaped slits, Smith said. The cooking spray that exploded near Reese had been stored on a shelf about 18 inches (46 centimeters) above the stove, according to Flowers. “In a commercial kitchen, that’s a sort of normal place where people leave their cooking spray cans when they’re actually using them. The redesign was not related to the lawsuits and was part of an effort to standardize the company’s cans, Conagra said.

A jury in Illinois ordered Chicago-based Conagra Brands to pay $7.1 million to a Pennsylvania woman who was badly burned when a can of cooking spray caught fire at her workplace kitchen. The woman, Tammy Reese, was working in a kitchen at Hub City Club in Shippensburg, Penn., in May 2017 and using Pam cooking spray when it suddenly “exploded into a fireball, causing burns,” according to the complaint filed in 2019. Ms. Reese suffered second-degree burns on her head, face, hands and arms and spent weeks getting burn care, Ms. Reese’s lawyer, J. Craig Smith, said. The jury ruled in favor of Ms. Reese on counts that included liability, design defect, failure to warn, and negligence and willful and wanton conduct, according to documents filed in Cook County Circuit Court on Monday.

“Americans should be able to file their taxes without fear that their sensitive data will be shared with Big Tech companies,” said the letters, copies of which were obtained by CNN. The letters — led by Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren — focus on the use of tracking technology developed by tech platforms and embedded within the tax prep companies’ websites that quietly transferred users’ personal information to Meta and Google, allegedly without their consent. Of the five tax prep companies, Intuit was not a major focus of the initial congressional probe because it did not use tracking pixels to the same extent as the others, the investigation found. They also asked the same question of each of the four other tax prep companies, as well as requesting a commitment to abide by the FTC’s warning not to use customer data in ways consumers did not expressly approve. The lawmakers requested that the tax prep firms respond by Nov. 8.

The hurricane was expected to weaken quickly in Guerrero state’s steep mountains. Otis had strengthened rapidly, going from a tropical storm to a Category 5 hurricane in 12 hours Tuesday. Otis’ arrival came just days after Hurricane Norma struck the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula to the north. Acapulco is a city of more than 1 million people at the foot of steep mountains. The storm was expected to become a powerful extratropical cyclone by Thursday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

People stand on the beach after Hurricane Otis' arrival alert in Acapulco, Guerrero state, Mexico on October 24, 2023. Hurricane Otis slammed into Mexico's southern Pacific coast as a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane early Wednesday, bringing dangerous winds and heavy rain to Acapulco and surrounding towns, stirring memories of a 1997 storm that killed dozens of people. The center of Otis is expected to move farther inland over southern Mexico through Wednesday night. Otis is stronger than Hurricane Pauline that hit Acapulco in 1997, López said. Otis' arrival came just days after Hurricane Norma struck the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Peninsula to the north.

“Near the coast, the surge will be accompanied by large and destructive waves,” the hurricane center said. “These rains will likely produce flash and urban flooding, along with possible mudslides in areas of higher terrain,” the National Hurricane Center warned. Tammy is expected to move near or over portions of the Leeward Islands – including Guadeloupe and Antigua and Barbuda – through Saturday night, and then move north of the northern Leeward Islands on Sunday. A storm surge of 1 to 3 feet is possible for parts of the Leeward Islands. Rainfall totals for the Leeward Islands are expected to be 4 to 8 inches, but could reach a foot in places where the heaviest rain sets up.

The forecaster said Norma would likely begin weakening from Friday through the weekend, and approach land from late Friday. Baja California is home to the Los Cabos beach resorts. In the Atlantic, the NHC forecast tropical storm conditions across parts of the Lesser Antilles from Friday as Tropical Storm Tammy heads west at 15 mph (24 km), nearing the Leeward Islands "at or near hurricane intensity".

Sen. Bob Menendez is viewed favorably by just 14% of New Jersey Democrats, according to a new poll. But New Jersey Democrats are ready to toss him out: a poll released Thursday found that as few as 5% of Democratic respondents would support the indicted lawmaker in a future primary contest. That sets up the possibility of a contested primary race in June 2024. In a contest where New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy enters the race, Menendez seems to find himself in an even worse position, based on the poll. Josh Shapiro to bypass the Legislature and start automatic voter registration. “THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO STEAL PENNSYLVANIA AGAIN BY DOING THE ‘AUTOMATIC VOTER REGISTRATION’ SCAM,” Trump wrote on his social media platform. Democrats contended that Shapiro was well within his legal authority to authorize automatic voter registration. A survey of several states with automatic voter registration revealed similar experiences. Republicans in some states that have switched to automatic registration say it will lead to fraud or illegal voting, and conservatives in Alaska have attempted to repeal that state’s automatic registration.
