Sales and profits at Dick's Sporting Goods bounced back in the third quarter, leading the retailer to raise its full-year guidance Tuesday after it shocked investors earlier this year when it slashed its outlook over theft concerns. In a news release, the company said it's "excited" for the holiday season after seeing "strong" back-to-school sales. Excluding one time items, Dick's saw earnings per share of $2.85. But it still falls below the original outlook the company set earlier this year, when it said it expected earnings of $12.90 to $13.80. Dick's also raised its comparable sales outlook and expects them to be up between 0.5% and 2%, compared to a previous range of flat to up 2%.

Mario Tama | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesEarly Black Friday discounts were far higher this October compared to prior years, signaling retailers are concerned that demand could be tepid during the crucial holiday shopping season. Last year, about 30% of overall holiday sales happened online and other non-stores versus physical retail locations, according to the NRF. On average, 7.8% of all items were on sale at some point during the month compared to just 4.9% in 2019 and 3.3% in 2021. In Oct. 2022, prices were down just .7% compared to the prior year and in Oct. 2021, prices were up 1.9% compared to the prior year. The following year, when both inventories and inflation had grown and consumers were starting to feel the burn of high prices, promotions rose.

"Next week is historically a pretty positive time, but I'm cognizant that we've had a big run here," Cramer said. New York CNN —Sephora has drastically changed the way people shop for fragrances in its stores, and it’s blaming store thefts for it. Sephora locked up the fragrances and added more staff specifically tasked with stopping theft. “To minimize the threats of retail theft and to provide our shoppers with the peace of mind during their experience at Sephora, we’ve increased the presence of Sephora loss prevention investigators across all stores. “The ultimate victim of retail crime is 100% the consumer,” said Landon Winkelvoss, co-founder of Nisos, a provider of threat intelligence to companies and organizations. “Sephora freed the products and put them straight into consumers hands so they could touch, swatch and experience the products at their leisure,” she added.

Costa Rica, Honduras Agree to End Visa Rules and Ease Trade

Earlier this month, Costa Rica introduced mandatory visa requirements for Hondurans seeking to enter, saying the measure was needed to boost security, which prompted reciprocal action from Tegucigalpa. Earlier this year, Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves proposed a set of security measures in response to surging crime, including a record-setting pace for murders. Costa Rican police have attributed rising violence to an uptick in international criminal groups trafficking drugs to the United States. Specifically, Costa Ricans seeking to enter Honduras will need a certificate showing their criminal records, while Hondurans seeking to enter Costa Rica will need a certificate detailing any police record. AllBirds (BIRD.O), Dr Martens (DOCS.L), and On Running (ONON.N) have all seen their market value fall since their IPOs in 2021. Record online discounts are coming this holiday season
  + stars: | 2023-10-05 | by ( Matt Egan | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +3 min
And the company predicts the strategy will work, with online holiday sales climbing almost 5% above last year. Retailers are poised to offer up to 35% off listed prices this holiday season, with the deepest discounts applied to toys, electronics and apparel, Adobe said in its annual holiday forecast. Buy Now, Pay Later is expected to drive a record $17 billion in online spending this holiday season, up 17% from 2022, Adobe said. Americans are also doing more and more holiday shopping (and shopping in general) on smartphones and tablets. That means Adobe’s 2023 holiday shopping forecast for solid sales growth would signal a genuine increase in demand from consumers.

While some staff will receive a new job title, their roles, responsibilities, type of work and base pay will not change, the retailer said. Corporate employees at Walmart and Sam’s Club, its warehouse chain, will be reclassified into fewer groups of possible titles and in some cases, pay changes will go into effect, starting in November. About 4% of the staff will see a decrease in stock-option awards to ensure compensation is aligned across geographies, Walmart said.
