New York CNN —Bugatti sold its last purely gas-powered supercar at a Paris auction Wednesday for more than $10 million, setting a world auction record for a new car. Originally a special development model that was never intended to be sold, the one-of-a-kind Bugatti Chiron Profilée sold at RM Sotheby’s Paris collector car auction for a bid of $9.5 million. The Bugatti Chiron Profilée is painted in a special color called Argent Atlantique, a hue developed just for this car. Included in that 500 have been a few variants, such as the Chiron Sport, Chiron Pur Sport and Chiron Super Sport, each with varying degrees of top speed, acceleration and cornering aggressiveness. A separate T. rex fossil known as Stan, which was sold in 2020 for a record $31.8 million, was also excavated from the Hell Creek Formation. The bones are thought to have been from an adult T. rex, auction house officials said.

The F2003-GA sold for $14.9 million in a Sotheby’s auction in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday, almost doubling the previous record for an F1 car when Schumacher’s F2001 fetched $7.5 million in 2017. According to Sotheby’s, Schumacher recorded five race wins, two podiums and three pole positions in the F2003-GA. In that season, the German finished just two points ahead of Kimi Räikkönen in the championship standings to claim the sixth of his seven world titles. By claiming his sixth world title, Schumacher passed Juan Manuel Fangio’s record tally and then went on to win his seventh title the following year – a number Lewis Hamilton matched in 2020.
