This summer Goldman hosted 2,970 interns, about 500 of whom were placed in the investment bank, according to stats provided by Goldman. Some rising juniors are also part of the internship classes, however, including Stephenson, who applied for her first Goldman internship during her freshman year of college. Last summer, Stephenson took the subway to work, which had its share of problems. According to Friedland, there's no "busy work" or "shadowing" and the senior bankers rely on the interns to do real work.

WASHINGTON, Aug 1 (Reuters) - U.S. auto safety regulators said Tuesday they have opened an investigation into 280,000 new Tesla (TSLA.O) Model 3 and Model Y vehicles over reports of loss of steering control and power steering. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened a preliminary evaluation after it received 12 complaints from owners of 2023 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. One Model 3 driver reported in May the "car steering felt stuck and slid off the road which resulted in crashing into a tree." A driver in Alpharetta, Georgia in June reported that a two-week-old Tesla Model Y was coming out of a shopping center when "suddenly steering wheel did not steer. The driver said it "currently remains at Tesla for the next 3 weeks while we await a new steering rack/motor."

CNN —Three drones were intercepted in “Moscow City” in an attempted attack on Sunday on the business and shopping development in the west of the Russian capital, Russia’s Ministry of Defense said. Russian state news agency TASS reported the attack, attributing it to security sources. Second drone attack in a weekSunday’s drone attack was the second reported in Moscow in the past week. Micro gyms costing around $11 an hour in Singapore are popping up near parks, malls, and petrol stations. The Gym Pod has 140,000 registered app users worldwide with interest growing after the pandemic. According to Bloomberg, it has 120,000 registered users in Singapore. Another company, My Gym Lab, also founded in Singapore, offers small spaces it calls labs across the city. The Gym Pod is hoping to expand into international markets and will be launching its first pod in China in the coming weeks, the spokesperson said.

The attack killed at least eight people, obliterated one structure and left burned-out cars in the shopping center car park, according to the report. CNN —Eight people were injured after a car driver rammed into pedestrians near a Tel Aviv shopping center and then got out of the vehicle to stab civilians, Israeli officials said Tuesday. A police spokesperson described the car ramming on Pinchas Rosen Street in northern Tel Aviv as a “terror attack,” and told CNN the driver was killed by an armed civilian. “This terror attack was combined, both of the vehicle hitting pedestrians, and then the driver, leaving the car, going outside, and stabbing innocent civilians,” he said. Brands that have moved away from department stores and physical shops in recent years are now pivoting back to traditional retail tactics after experiencing first-hand the difficulty of acquiring and retaining customers directly online. A recent study by UBS predicted that retail stores would continue to close over the next five years and estimated that 50,000 shops would disappear by 2028. In San Francisco, Nordstrom said it would close its longtime store at San Francisco Centre in August, which will leave the mall 45 percent empty. Westfield isn’t the first mall owner to decide to leave a longtime downtown shopping center. Last year, Brookfield Property Partners relinquished Chicago’s Water Tower Place, the mall that anchors the Magnificent Mile, an upscale commercial district. More than half of the space in Water Tower Place is vacant, including an anchor store location that was a Macy until 2021, according to Cushman & Wakefield. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW.PA) said late on Monday it will transfer its Westfield San Francisco shopping mall to lenders. The announcement followed Park Hotels & Resorts (PK.N) statement last week that it ceased making payments toward a $725 million mortgage linked to its Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Parc 55 hotels. Westfield's decision is the latest blow to San Francisco, the once-booming tech hub that has been particularly hard hit by the pandemic. The potential for difficulties from commercial real estate to flow through to banks is also becoming a bigger worry for investors and regulators. Gen Z are a tech-savvy generation but they like shopping in physical stores just as much as online. A new survey found that Gen Z like being able to see, touch and try a product before buying it. A new report by the International Council of Shopping Centers surveyed 1,008 people aged 16 to 26 about their shopping habits and preferences. It found that although 95% of Gen Z like shopping online, just as many (97%) also enjoy going to the mall. Gen Z are voracious shoppers with social media encouraging young people to buy new clothes regularly.

Head next to Southall Library, home to a noted collection of Martin Ware pottery. At this open-air shopping center in suburban Dallas, they valet-park their Porsches, sport Yves Saint Laurent handbags, flit in and out of Audemars Piguet and pause for brunch at Sadelle’s, the fancy new deli from Major Food Group in New York. Even the sugar for coffee comes to the table in tiny Le Creuset Dutch ovens. Dallas has long had a reputation for living large, an image built on oil money and the wide swaths of ranch land displayed on its namesake TV series. These companies are giving Dallas the kind of attention they’ve previously lavished on tourist playgrounds like Las Vegas and Miami. Major Food Group opened a Dallas branch of its maximalist-Italian restaurant Carbone last year, and says it has even larger ambitions in the city.
