The chances of a smaller 25 basis point cut have fallen to a 41% chance. Barclays analyst Matthew Bouley is watching the data very closely as well and said a lot will depend on how consumers react as mortgage rates fall. Bouley said this is one of the clearest signs yet that a recent decline in mortgage rates is bringing buyers into the market. Slightly more than half the analysts who cover the stock rate it a buy or overweight, it said.

Intel shares jump on chip deal with Amazon

New York CNN —Intel’s struggling chip-making business got a boost Monday from a high-profile client: Amazon. Intel Foundry and Amazon Web Services will coinvest in a custom chip design for the latter and “announced a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar framework,” according to a release. “Specifically, Intel Foundry will produce an AI fabric chip for AWS on Intel 18A,” Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger said in the statement Monday. The new deal, along with a $3 billion grant from the US government to boost domestic chip making and make chips for the US military, “demonstrates the continued progress we are making to build a world-class foundry business,” Intel said in the statement. Intel has changed its business model to try to become a global chip manufacturer to rival Taiwan’s TSMC.

Designer Michael Kors poses backstage before the Michael Kors Collection Fall 2017 runway show at Spring Studios in New York City on Feb. 15, 2017. The deal, if approved, would put six fashion brands under a single company: Tapestry's Coach, Kate Spade and Stuart Weitzman, with Capri's Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors. Shares of Capri, which includes Michael Kors, reflect the tougher stretch that the designer Kors described. Gennette, who retired early this year, said the department store's sales got hit because it leaned too heavily on Michael Kors' brand. He said the markdown of Michael Kors' handbags contributed to "a bad spiral Macy's was living through when I was there."

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger holds a sample of a wafer during his keynote speech at the Computex conference in Taipei on June 4, 2024. Intel shares jumped 8% in extended trading Monday after the company said it plans to turn its foundry business into an independent unit with its own board and the potential to raise outside capital. Gelsinger said the restructuring would allow the foundry business to "evaluate independent sources of funding," and comes days after Intel's board met to assess the direction and future of the company. The foundry business, which Intel plans to use to manufacture chips for other customers, has been a big drag on its bottom line, with the company spending roughly $25 billion on it in each of the last two years. With a standalone "operating board" and a cleaner corporate structure, the mechanics of a separation become far easier than trying to turn a fully integrated unit into a separate company.

Apple is no longer the growth company it once was despite still being a great income generator, according to New York University's Aswath Damodaran. Apple shares slid Monday following reports of softer demand for the tech giant's new iPhone 16 model, after first-weekend orders for the phone unveiled just last week were shown to be down on a year-over-year basis.
