Ron DeSantis that gave the tribe exclusive rights to run sports wagers as well as casino gambling on its reservations. The companies sued Deb Haaland, secretary of the U.S. Department of Interior, which oversees tribal gambling. State economic forecasters predict the revenue sharing from tribal gaming could total $4.4 billion through the end of this decade. The pari-mutuel firms also sued DeSantis and leaders of the Florida Legislature, which authorized the compact, in a case pending before the Florida Supreme Court. The tribe argued the legislature has the authority to decide where online gambling is initiated and the amendment doesn't change that.

Opponents said the law had created confusion about whether teachers could identity themselves as LGBTQ+ or if they even could have rainbow stickers in classrooms. Other states used the Florida law as a template to pass prohibitions on classroom instruction on gender identity or sexual orientation. Under the terms of the settlement, the Florida Board of Education will send instructions to every school district saying the Florida law doesn't prohibit discussing LGBTQ+ people, nor prevent anti-bullying rules on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or disallow Gay-Straight Alliance groups. It barred instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through the third grade, and it was expanded to all grades last year. In some cases, books dealing with LGBTQ+ topics were removed from classrooms and lines mentioning sexual orientation were excised from school musicals.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The court fight between Disney and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' appointees over control of Walt Disney World's government won't be decided until at least this summer, provided the two sides don't reach a settlement beforehand. A hearing over whether the state court case should move forward or be decided without the need for a full trial was set last week for July 25 in Orlando. Disney claims the Republican governor and his appointees took over the district, which provides government services like planning and firefighting at Disney World, in retaliation for the company opposing Florida's so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law. DeSantis and his appointees to the governing district had a first-round victory in the multiple court fights over the takeover when a federal judge in Tallahassee in January dismissed Disney’s free speech lawsuit against them.

Citi has identified European stocks it says are similar to the high-flying " Magnificent Seven " U.S. technology stocks, but trade at cheaper valuations leaving more room for them to rise. Citi's resulting Super Seven picks are Novo Nordisk , ASML , LVMH , SAP , Schneider Electric , Richemont and Ferrari . All of the stocks stocks also trade in the United States. Despite the rally over the past year, Citi points out that as a group, the Super Seven have lagged the Magnificent Seven, with 70% less appreciation since early 2023, leaving more upside potential. Looking ahead, Citi said the Super Seven was well positioned to continue outperforming should current "narrow" market conditions persist, and cautioned against selling stocks on the basis of a narrow market leadership.

The proposed questions geared toward people age 15 and older will be tested sometime this year. Intersex is an umbrella term for a number of conditions where internal or external sex characteristics aren’t exactly like typical male or female bodies. Rene Coig objected to respondents being asked their sex at birth and then being asked their current gender. Others were disheartened by transgender being separated out as a category from male, female and nonbinary in the gender question instead of including the options of transgender man or transgender female. The test questions will be sent to 480,000 households, with the statistical agency expecting just over half to respond. If the questions are approved, it will be the first time sexual orientation and gender identity questions are asked on the American Community Survey, which already asks questions about commuting times, internet access, family life, income, education levels, disabilities and military service, among other topics. Possible answers: Male; Female; Transgender; Nonbinary; and “This person uses a different term” (with a space to write in a response). The second gender question will be tested in two different ways to determine whether to give respondents the opportunity to select multiple answers. The agency also plans to add what it describes as a “verification” question for anyone whose responses on the two gender questions don't match.

Workers who bring Disneyland’s beloved characters to life — including Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Cinderella — are looking to unionize. Labor organizers announced the campaign Tuesday, saying performers want better safety conditions and scheduling policies to help keep the magic alive for visitors. While most of the more than 35,000 workers at the Disneyland Resort already have labor unions, about 1,700 performers and character actors do not. “This isn't one of those situations where we're out making the employer the bad guy,” said Kate Shindle, president of Actors' Equity Association, which would represent the performers. CNN —A megastructure found in the Baltic Sea may represent one of the oldest known hunting structures used in the Stone Age — and could change what’s known about how hunter-gatherers lived around 11,000 years ago. The stones, which connected several large boulders, were almost perfectly aligned, making it seem unlikely that nature had shaped the structure. The team determined that the wall was likely built by Stone Age communities to hunt reindeer more than 10,000 years ago.
