One recent Friday afternoon, I found myself walking a few feet behind a fellow who turned out to be Rodgers. We were both on our ways somewhere in SoHo, and I went out of mine to stick with him for a few extra blocks. At some point, on Grand, a street that doubles as a parking lot at that time of day, a gentleman with taxi-livery plates leaned out of his window and somehow audibly mouthed, “You’re walking behind Aaron Rodgers.” He could have yelled at Rodgers himself. They know that we know and are maybe grateful that we’re letting them be. That’s a question that’s dogged him all over the city, especially at the Tonys: You lost?

NEW YORK, July 23 (Reuters) - It is Barbie’s world, and U.S. small businesses hope their social-media marketing can help them cash in on it. But as Mattel-licensed Barbie marketing and products flood big companies' stores, hotel suites and social media posts, small firms also seek to capitalize on the hype. “Small businesses may look at the Barbie promotions and dream of that kind of budget and mass brand awareness,” said Brianne Fleming, an adjunct marketing instructor at University of Florida. MoonFire, an arts boutique based in Dallas, Texas, hosted a Barbie-themed collaboration in person with ten small businesses selling hot-pink, Barbie-inspired products. So, for small businesses, the strategy is to be a quick follower,” he said.

REUTERS/Arriana McLymoreJuly 21 (Reuters) - Shoppers are snapping up Barbie hoop earrings, perfume, jumpsuits, and dresses as retailers seek to cash in on Friday's Barbie film release, reigniting the craze for the plastic doll and her hot pink, sequin-adorned universe. Mattel says the Barbie movie is expected to boost global sales of Barbie dolls, which declined last year from record growth during the pandemic. A Gap Barbie hoodie for women was available only in size XXS online, while a pair of Barbie Crocs, priced at $59.99 - $10 more than normal Crocs - was sold out on the Crocs website. Luggage brand Beis had a waiting list for all three sizes of suitcases in a Barbie pink, priced at a premium to its usual colour range. Walmart pitched Barbie dolls in varying skin tones and hairstyles at $45 to collectors.

It may seem counterintuitive, but the pandemic was like a brief visit to Shangri-La for Wall Street. For the first time in years, Wall Street has to sing for its supper. A return to the office also means a return to more-classic Wall Street social norms. Wall Street, for all its highfalutin personalities and big paydays, is an apprenticeship system. For Wall Street, the heart of the pandemic was a moment to consider what life would be like at a slower, more-nurturing pace.

Did you leave because you wanted to spend more time on directing and less on paperwork? It’s been an incredible gift to be working at that level of artistic risk and to be surrounded by other artists working at that level of risk. Why choose “Blasted” for your first outing as director at Soho Rep? I’m always attentive to what feelings I get because that is the best information that’s going to take me to “What’s the real material? What can I bring to this material?” I’m always trying to seek out that charge.

Two Sigma, the successful quant hedge fund, is dogged by two cofounders who don't get along. Disagreements between Overdeck and Siegel only surfaced publicly for the first time last week. The disclosure was highly unusual for a hedge fund since they generally have much lighter disclosure requirements than their public counterparts, experts say, making the filing all the more notable. The firm has been known mainly as a premier quantitative hedge fund since its founding. Then when it comes to planning for the next generation of leaders to take over from hedge fund founders, the transition can be difficult.

The event included performances by Wyclef Jean; Stout; Gladys Knight, and MC Lyte, who were supported by Ray Chew, the music director for the event, and his band. Downtown, on Spring Street, Chanel hosted the 16th annual Tribeca Festival Artists dinner at Balthazar, which honored women artists who contributed original artwork to the festival’s filmmakers. Seven Standouts From the New York Design Festival

NYCxDesign, a design festival held each May in New York City, wrapped up its 11th edition last week with a strong array of group shows across boroughs — in Soho showrooms, artist studios and backyards in Brooklyn, vacant office spaces in Chinatown and galleries in between. Though officially billed as a weeklong festival beginning May 19 and anchored by the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and WantedDesign at the Javits Center, the event circuit seemed to begin in earnest a week before, with a packed roster of adjacent art and design fairs in town — including The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF), Frieze New York and the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA). Below are a few highlights from this year’s edition. Heavy Metals

How a Maitre d’ at Balthazar Spends His Sundays

Zouheir Louhaichy, the head maître d’ at Balthazar, the perennially popular SoHo brasserie, doesn’t give just any customer his cell number. Those who have it, though, are not shy about reaching out on Sundays, his day off. “I’ll get texts from regulars who are either desperate to get in on short notice or need help with future requests,” he said. Between returning regulars’ texts on Sundays, he trains for triathlons. I love Hawaiian coffee because the beans are sort of a connection to Hawaii, which I love.
The thinly veiled casual hellos might feel suspicious to the lucky owners of a summer house (or people with primary homes in summer-positive locales). “When I post pictures of my Hamptons house, now I get 10 to 12 different people messaging me to be like, ‘Oh my God, let’s catch up,’ or ‘I need to see you this summer. When can we get together?’” said a fashion entrepreneur who has a seven-bedroom house in Sag Harbor. The entrepreneur, 39, who requested that her name not be published for fear of offending the people of whom she spoke, has had her Hamptons house for three years, and said the messages were becoming an annual occurrence. Some people with summer homes are finding ways to avoid playing host altogether.
Your friendly neighborhood lender, BlackstoneWhat's the first thing that pops into your head when you think of a regional bank? Nouriel Roubini, the famed economist known as "Dr. Doom" isn't too optimistic about the future of regional banks. Never one to miss a chance to make money, Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman said his firm can "fill the void" left by regional banks tightening up their lending activity. Regional banks happen to be one of the biggest lenders in commercial real estate. Doom' is feeling bearish on regional banks.
Ray Dalio's neighbor is suing over a renovation project at his family's SoHo residence. The Dalio family is building a penthouse on top of its sixth-floor apartment, the NYT reported. The Dalios' neighbor said in a lawsuit that the project could cause his nearby apartment to collapse. The neighbor says he's worried his own apartment could collapse, the New York Times reports. During the pandemic, the Dalio family began construction on a penthouse on top of their sixth-floor SoHo apartment, the Times reported.
That’s the Funny Thing About Grief

Either way, there’s no question that in certain quarters of comedy, jokes are not enough. For instance, at shows around New York, the quirky, swaggering Gastor Almonte has been performing a hilarious 10 to 15 minutes about his hatred of oatmeal. In a previous era that might have added up to a debut special that resembled the work of Jim Gaffigan. “What is trauma but unmonetized content?” he asks, echoing a line from “WandaVision,” a series that itself is a grief narrative. “We don’t talk about grief: We keep our grief to ourselves,” Kayne says in “Sorry for Your Loss.” Glazer hit this same theme.
Another members-only club has opened in New York. But unlike its predecessors, which include Soho House, Aman, Casa Cipriani, and others, the Centurion New York was designed not by an architect or hotelier — but by a credit card company. American Express opened its first Centurion members club, an 11,500-square-foot space with wraparound views of Manhattan in March. Even the scent — a Santal with notes of sandalwood — bathing over you after exiting the elevator was planned. American Express brought on Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud to create the menu, which includes simple dishes like lobster rolls and cheesecake.
Some Chinatown residents benefited from the development boom, selling properties to developers or drawing more customers from increased foot traffic. Some residents have shown tentative support for the luxury buildings, saying they might make the neighborhood safer or bring in wealthier Asian residents who could boost Chinatown's economy. Manhattan Chinatown's housing stock is "really aged," which has led to costly fires, according to Thomas Yu, executive director of Asian Americans for Equality. Chinatowns and the pandemicMany debates surrounding luxury development and affordable housing were accelerated by the pandemic, which shuttered hundreds of businesses across Chinatowns. However, business owners who spoke with CNBC said Chinatown's businesses, though still recovering, are keeping the city's culture alive.
There Are No Universal Salves

My children and I were visiting New York City’s most important landmarks, so naturally we began our journey at the Glossier flagship store in SoHo. Ever since 2014, those loyal to dewiness and glossiness have sought a consecrated place to pay homage to Balm Dotcom universal salve and Boy Brow grooming pomade. We believe beauty is about having fun, celebrating freedom, and being present, because no matter where you are in your beauty journey — YOU LOOK GOOD. The mirror in the Glossier flagship store would like a word. I expect to be miraculously transformed into a fresh-faced teenager, but in the mirror I discover a creased old crone with inexplicably neon-orange lips.
The priciest New York City residential real estate as ranked by median listing price is in downtown Manhattan’s 10013 ZIP Code, according to Realtor.com. ( News Corp , owner of The Wall Street Journal, also operates Realtor.com under license from the National Association of Realtors.) While the 0.55 square mile ZIP Code covers several neighborhoods—it touches parts of SoHo and Chinatown and encompasses Little Italy—it’s largely synonymous with Tribeca, located on the city’s west side along the Hudson River. Tribeca, characterized by cobblestone streets, is known for its old industrial buildings that have been converted into large, hip residential lofts that can accommodate growing families. The enclave’s appeal rests not only in its mellow neighborhood vibe but also in its access to waterfront living, green spaces and great schools in the area.
