Eli Lilly CFO Anat Ashkenazi will become Alphabet's new chief financial officer effective July 31, Google's parent company announced Tuesday, almost a year after Alphabet first announced current CFO Ruth Porat would move to a new role as president and chief investment officer. Ashkenazi has had a 23-year career at Eli Lilly, which in a separate release confirmed her departure. Ashkenazi joined Eli Lilly in 2001 and had been CFO since 2021. She previously served as a CFO for several of the company's global business areas, helping to manage the revenue windfall from Eli Lilly's weight loss and diabetes drugs. Porat had nearly three-decade career as as an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, culminating as its CFO, before joining Google in 2015.

This is not the first time Alito has found himself in hot water over displaying a controversial flag on his property. The upside-down flag, a signal of distress, was adopted by Trump supporters who believed the false claim that the election had been stolen. (Alito said his wife had raised the upside-down flag in response to a disagreement with a neighbor. Fortunately, the third round (after a “Queen Charlotte” detour) has the highly sympathetic Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) at its core, adding some additional sweetness to the formula. For the uninitiated, poor Penelope has spent two seasons secretly moonlighting as the acid-tongued gossip Lady Whistledown (still voiced by Julie Andrews, because, well, Julie Andrews! (There’s a praying mantis quality to Bridgertons, since while mating doesn’t lead to death, they do tend to lose their heads and then mostly disappear.) Give some credit to the casting and, more pragmatically, the strength of Netflix as a platform relative to the more rarefied homes for such fare. “Bridgerton” begins its third season May 16 on Netflix, with the second half to premiere on June 13.
