Since briefly becoming the world's most valuable company last week, Nvidia has dropped for three consecutive trading days and is now down 13% from its peak. Nvidia's decline brought with it a slide in chipmakers and other tech companies that have been tied to the artificial intelligence boom. Super Micro Computer , which sells servers packed with Nvidia's AI chips, slid 8.7 percent, and Dell , which competes in that market, fell 5.2%. Last week, it topped Apple and Microsoft as the most valuable U.S. company with a market capitalization over $3 trillion before giving up some of those gains. Later this year, Nvidia will start shipping its next-generation AI chips, called Blackwell, that some analysts say could kick off another cycle with significant growth for the chipmaker and its partners.

Semiconductor stocks KLA , Qualcomm and Texas Instruments were the other names on the list that could soon see a pullback.

Taipei, Taiwan CNN —When Nvidia surpassed Apple this week to become America’s second most valuable company, its CEO Jensen Huang was being feted like a rockstar in his birthplace Taiwan. Taiwan media has dubbed the phenomenon “Jensanity.”He’s not the only celebrity CEO in town. The United States has imposed a number of restrictions on the export of AI chips to China. Late last year, Chinese tech giants like Tencent were rushing to stockpile AI chips before those curbs took hold. “Taiwan in particular is very important to the semiconductor ecosystem.”People attend Computex 2024 in Taipei, Taiwan, on June 4, 2024.

However, many of the companies wishing to use generative AI functions and apps today rely on giants like Microsoft and Amazon through their cloud businesses. These so-called "hyperscalers" are buying huge amounts of chips from companies like Nvidia to train up these massive AI models in data centers running complex servers. Kneron is betting that businesses will not always want to rely on these cloud giants for their AI needs. Kneron's launch comes just days after both Nvidia and AMD launched their latest AI chips, with both appearing to ramp up the pace of launches. The products from Nvidia and AMD are aimed at huge data centers from tech giants that can train up massive AI models.

In 2025, that revenue growth is set for a 12% increase and earnings growth for 15%. That would put Meta's multiples at 26 times 2024's earnings and 23 times 2025's earnings, according to Coons. Read previewNvidia cofounder and CEO Jensen Huang is in Taiwan this week, where he's getting rockstar reception and boosting the stock market. The drills started on Thursday, but Taiwan's stock market was little changed over the period. "In this case, the AI equity theme, physical investment in AI, and the wider upturn in electronic component demand are driving robust Taiwanese growth and the strong stock market performance," wrote Green. He added that an outright invasion of Taiwan by China is "very unlikely" due to high military and economic risk. "If the macro backdrop is positive and China remains far from achieving 'fortress-like' economic conditions, future sell-offs may offer attractive buying opportunities," Green wrote.

Nvidia , the red-hot chipmaker that sells advanced processors to enable artificial intelligence technology, may have a customer bigger than anyone else. That could be Microsoft , UBS speculated in a note. The Wall Street bank pored over Nvidia's filings and estimated that Microsoft was its largest indirect customer, contributing to 19% of Nvidia's revenue in fiscal 2024. It leads UBS to its guess that one of the two could likely again be Microsoft. Nvidia has become so influential to the whole stock market that a good earnings report could unleash a wave of animal spirits that push the market to new heights.

Copilot+ PCs with AMD and Intel chips will follow, Microsoft said during a press keynote address on its campus in Redmond, Washington. AI models will be able to generate images based on written descriptions as well as drawings. Microsoft is banking on Qualcomm's energy-efficient Arm -based chips that can handle AI models to defend its Windows franchise. The new PCs can run some AI models locally without an internet connection. Microsoft has had little success in getting people to adopt Arm-based Windows computers, which haven't always performed as well as PCs running Intel or AMD chips.

SoftBank Group subsidiary Arm is planning to launch artificial intelligence chips by next year, according to a Nikkei Asia report, as the battle for AI chip dominance intensifies. SoftBank is in discussion with contract manufacturers including Taiwan's TSMC to produce the AI chips, the report added. Arm designs the fundamental architecture upon which the chips are built. The company will bear the initial development costs of the AI chips, which could reach "hundreds of billions of yen," according to the report. After a mass-production system has been set up, Arm's AI chip business could be "spun off and placed under SoftBank."
