Combs on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to each count: racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. The lawsuit accuses Combs and other defendants of sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual assault, gender-motivated violence, sexual harassment, gender discrimination and a hostile work environment. Diddy is not accused of sexual assault in the lawsuit but is included in allegations of liability and aiding and abetting. As the Fed lowers its benchmark rate, mortgage rates are likely to go down. Mortgage rates often trend up or down ahead of expected Fed moves, but once a hike or cut is priced in, they tend to hold steady unless the Fed surprises everyone. Haymore also notes that mortgage rates could fluctuate depending on other information that comes out of this upcoming meeting. Music fans both here in Philadelphia and around the world have reason to mourn on Wednesday as legendary R&B artist, songwriter and producer Frankie Beverly has died. On Wednesday morning, Beverly’s family announced the founder of the funk and soul band Maze -- who was born Howard Stanley Beverly -- passed away the day before. He lived for his music, family and friends. “After catching the attention of legendary songwriter and producer Kenny Gamble, the group had several releases under Philly-based record label Cameo Parkway,” wrote Tribune correspondent O.J. That’s because frequent flyer programs have become a crucial part of the airline industry’s profitability. The typical airline passenger probably never thinks about the economics of frequent flyer programs, but the programs have become crucial for airlines to generate the profits needed to stay afloat. United reported a mere $3.2 billion on its other operating line that came primarily on payments to its frequent flyer program. “The airlines’ frequent flyer programs are their lifeblood; they’re the reason the airlines are in business,” said Zach Griff, senior aviation reporter for The Points Guy, a travel site that closely follows the programs. But it’s probably inaccurate to say frequent flyer programs are more valuable than the airlines themselves since actual flights give the programs their intrinsic value, said Andrew Didora, airline analyst with Bank of America.

Andy Lipow, president of consulting firm Lipow Oil Associates, expects that another nine states will join the sub-$3 list in the next two weeks. “Gas prices, after two-plus years of sizzling because of outside factors like Covid and Russia, are finally coming back into balance,” said De Haan. The accelerating drop in gas prices should help ease financial pressure on consumers and contribute to the cooling inflation rate. That continues a trend from 2023, when generative AI companies raised $25.9 billion for the full year, up more than 200% from 2022. The average round for AI companies is 140% bigger this year compared with last, the data shows, while for non-AI companies the increase is only 10%. Most venture investors are bullish on the potential for generative AI to eventually create big returns at the application layer. John-David Lovelock, an analyst at Gartner and a 35-year veteran of the IT industry, sees a big opportunity for generative AI in the enterprise. Yet, in 2024, only 1% of the trillion dollars spent on software will be from businesses spending on generative AI products, he said.

There are now 172,300 individuals worldwide holding over $1 million in crypto assets, up from 88,200 last year, according to a report from New World Wealth and Henley & Partners. There are now 325 crypto centi-millionaires (those with $100 million or more in crypto holdings), and 28 crypto billionaires, according to the report. As other coins have increased in value, the market cap of crypto assets has increased to $2.3 trillion, according to Henley, up from $1.2 trillion last summer.

But there was one statistic that made my head spin: 31% of 7- to 9-year-olds use the X (Twitter) app. Parents might be the ones actually using X — and Amazon ShoppingI reached out to Qustodio to ask how to interpret this bizarre number. I asked if perhaps this could be because a child was using a device that they shared with a grown-up. But the X app doesn't let you see tweets if you're not logged in, so it's not actually so easy to accidentally surf around. I don't think Qustodio just invented some fake numbers.
