Counterfeiting has ballooned into a massive problem for Crye, costing it millions of dollars a year, said Jonathan Antone, the company's general counsel. By 2016, sellers were speaking out about Amazon's growing counterfeit problem, telling CNBC of the company's effort to openly court Chinese manufacturers. "There's a lot more space on that digital shelf for potential counterfeit products," he added. Agents seized "multiple tractor trailer loads" of counterfeit MultiCam products, estimated to be worth $8 million, according to court documents. As Wall Street financiers snapped up huge swaths of the nation’s rental housing market in recent years, the deals sailed through unchallenged. But large purchases of rental homes and apartment buildings by private equity firms like KKR are another cause, research shows. The Private Equity Stakeholder Project, a nonprofit that monitors the industry’s impact on individual Americans, has identified more than 5,100 apartment complexes owned by more than 30 private equity companies in America, totaling almost 1.4 million units. A man accused of selling sex videos of a 16-year-old Florida girl on the adults-only website OnlyFans pleaded no contest to child abuse. Diaz was ordered not to use OnlyFans and to have no contact with the victim during his probation. Reuters reported on Diaz’s case in an investigation in July that documented dozens of complaints in U.S. police and court records that child sexual abuse material appeared on OnlyFans. Over about three months in early 2023, Diaz posted dozens of sex videos and images of the girl on an OnlyFans account he controlled, according to investigators. The brick-and-mortar resurrection of BuyBuy Baby, which once had as many as 120 locations across the United States, lasted less than 12 months. However, BuyBuy Baby dealt with a hesitant consumer, squeezed both by inflationary pressures and larger rivals, like Amazon and Target, that have a tight grip on the sector. Perhaps in an ironic twist, former sister brand Bed Bath & Beyond announced last week it was returning to stores, albeit in a partnership with former rival the Container Store.
