Aiming to unseat three-term Democratic incumbent Jon Tester, Sheehy is founder of Montana-based Bridger Aerospace, an aerial firefighting company. On July 1, Sheehy resigned as chief executive of Bridger to focus on his Senate campaign; the company is seeking a replacement. In mid-June, an editorial in The Wall Street Journal echoed Griffin’s view, branding Sheehy’s company Bridger a success. The PAC spent $5.3 million for Sheehy and $5.7 million against his opponent, Tester, records show. A Delta Airlines Airbus A319-114 aircraft taxis at Los Angeles International Airport after arriving from Las Vegas on May 5, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. Delta Air Lines on Thursday said last month's CrowdStrike outage and subsequent mass flight cancellations cost it some $550 million and reiterated that it is pursuing damages against the company as well as Microsoft . Delta struggled more than its competitors to recover from the July 19 outage, which took millions of Windows-based machines offline around the world. "Since the incident, our people have returned the operation to an industry-leading position that is consistent with the level of performance our customers expect from Delta." The U.S. Department of Transportation last month said it is investigating Delta's response to the outage and flight cancellations.

Travelers wait in line, as a flight board shows delays, on the check-in floor of the Delta Air Lines terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on July 23, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. CrowdStrike on Sunday said Delta Air Lines had rejected onsite help during last month's massive outage that sparked thousands of flight cancellations. Delta CEO Ed Bastian told CNBC's "Squawk Box" last week that the mass cancellations following the outage, which occurred at one of the busiest times of the year, cost the company about $500 million, including customer compensation. In response, Michael Carlinsky, CrowdStrike lawyer and co-managing partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan wrote to Delta's lawyer David Boies on Sunday that Delta's litigation threats "contributed to a misleading narrative that CrowdStrike is responsible for Delta's IT decisions and response to the outage." He said CrowdStrike's CEO George Kurtz reached out to Bastian to "offer onsite assistance, but received no response."

As the aviation industry scrambles for ways to reduce its carbon footprint, hydrogen has emerged as a high-potential solution to its problems. In 2022, aviation accounted for 2% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, according to the International Energy Agency. The International Air Transport Association, the trade association for the world's airlines, has committed to achieving net zero by 2050. IATA's 330 member airlines will rely on sustainable aviation fuel, offsets and carbon capture, and new technology to reach the goal. So, how would hydrogen fuel and planes work?

Beirut CNN —Israel says it has launched a strike in Beirut, Lebanon, targeting a Hezbollah commander that it blamed for a deadly attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. An Israeli official identified the target of the strike as Fu’ad Shukr, also known as al-Hajj Mohsin. Israel wanted to send “a very strong message” with tonight’s strike, according to a senior Israeli official, but hopes to avoid further escalation. Hezbollah denied responsibility for the strike but did say it had fired at Israeli military targets in the area. Tuesday’s attack is of a different caliber, marking the largest Israeli escalation with the powerful Lebanese militant group since October 8.

And now it wants Microsoft and the cybersecurity firm that caused the problem to compensate it for at least some of its losses. Delta has hired high-profile attorney David Boies’ law firm to seek damages from cyber security firm CrowdStrike and Microsoft for the massive service issues it suffered last week following a badly flawed software update caused problems in a key computer program. The hiring of the firm of Boies Schiller Flexner, first reported by CNBC, was confirmed to CNN by a person familiar with the decision. Delta’s costs could total between $325 million to $475 million, according to a note published Tuesday by Savanthi Syth, airline analyst for Raymond James. Toby Melville | ReutersFARNBOROUGH, England — Massive airplane orders, hundreds deep in recent years, were absent from this year's biggest air show. One standout was Air Korea's order for up to 50 Boeing wide-body planes, including the 777X, which Boeing is working toward getting certified by regulators. As both manufacturers grapple with production strains, Air Korea CEO Walter Cho quipped during the Boeing order signing: "Whichever comes first will become our flagship, whoever's on time." Boeing has an overall backlog of close to 5,500 planes, while Airbus has more than 8,000 on order. Many airlines from United Airlines to Air India have also stocked up on new jet orders as travel rebounded in the pandemic.

The day before the show, Guillaume Faury, the Airbus CEO, told the media the planemaker was having "important discussions" with some key suppliers as it was facing "a bit of an unexpected challenge." Airports and airlines say they can handle both. U.S. airlines expect to transport 271 million passengers worldwide this summer, up 6.3% from last season, the Airlines for America trade group has projected. Peter Steffen / picture alliance via Getty ImageThe U.S. Department of Transportation tracks “extreme weather” delays caused by conditions like tornadoes, blizzards or hurricanes but not those due to heat. During extreme heat, the airport urges employees to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks and, if they’re working outdoors, to cool off inside every hour. “Passengers are also encouraged to use the airport’s water stations to stay hydrated in the Arizona heat,” he added.
