NATO's biggest ever air exercise is happening in Germany. Around 10,000 personnel and 250 aircraft, including about 100 from the US, are in Germany for the alliance's two-week Air Defender exercise. "Air Defender sends a clear message that NATO is ready to defend every inch of Allied territory," said NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu in a statement Monday. "Air Defender is necessary because we live in a more dangerous world" and the NATO alliance is facing "the biggest security crisis in a generation." As for the NATO air exercise, the drill will focus on protecting NATO cities and critical infrastructure, which Russia has attacked repeatedly throughout the war in Ukraine, from aircraft, drones, and missile attacks.

Deadly accidentsNaval Special Warfare operators perform a free-fall jump in Alaska in September. The incident, which likely happened during as part of a pre-deployment workup, is still under investigation, according to Naval Special Warfare Command. Despite that danger, however, free-fall parachuting is also extremely valuable as an insertion method for special-operations units. The Navy SEAL community — especially the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, formerly known as SEAL Team 6 — is well-versed in free-fall operations. Most US special-operations units have recognized the value of free-fall parachuting and have incorporated it into their training.

Concerns that the Federal Reserve will continue to increase rates have affected municipal fund inflows. The markets’ bumpy start to 2023 is causing whiplash even in the historically placid realm of state and local government debt. Municipal bonds this month have erased nearly all of their January gains after fears of rate increases cooled investor appetites. “It has been a roller coaster,” said Nathan Will , head of municipal credit research at Vanguard Group.
On Monday, Alphabet's Google announced a new conversational AI technology it will open up to public testing, called Bard, which would rival ChatGPT. "This is a company that went public in late 2021," Nathan said on CNBC's " Fast Money " Monday night. "If we start seeing companies put .ai at the end of the company [name], we've been through that, we know what happens here," he added. "A lot of times if a company is saying they have superior AI, that could be a warning sign." The size and the quality of the data set an AI service uses is one of the best predictors of success, he added.

Woodyard, who placed McClain in a chokehold, forcing him into unconsciousness, will be tried alone. That night, three Aurora police officers responded to a report of a suspicious person wearing a mask and waving his arms. Police body camera video released later showed officers ordering McClain to stop. He responded that he was an introvert and to “please respect the boundaries that I am speaking.” After questioning McClain, the officers grabbed him. One of them said he believed McClain had reached for a holstered gun, and McClain was brought to the ground.
Attorneys for all five defendants entered pleas of not guilty to manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and other charges. Police restrained the slight-of-built McClain in a carotid neck hold, commonly known as a choke hold. A public outcry over the McClain death prompted Colorado's governor to order the state attorney general to review the case. Rosenblatt was fired after he responded with a "Haha" text message to photos taken by uninvolved officers mocking McClain's death. In addition to homicide charges, the two paramedics under indictment, Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec, were charged with assault for their role in administering the drug injection.

AURORA, Colo. — An amended autopsy report released Friday revealed Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man who died after a confrontation with police officers, died because he was injected with ketamine by paramedics after being forcibly restrained. The manner of McClain's death is undetermined, according to the amended report. The original autopsy report, signed Nov. 7, 2019, said McClain's cause of death could not be determined, but new information that emerged during a grand jury investigation prompted the state attorney general's office to order a second autopsy. The new autopsy report was released to the public after Colorado Public Radio filed a lawsuit against the Adams County Coroner's Office for denying the news organization's request for a copy of the amended report. Inside an ambulance about seven minutes later, McClain did not have a pulse and went into cardiac arrest, according to a report released later that year by then-District Attorney Dave Young.
