In 1987, artist Gretchen Bender created the installation “Total Recall,” a wall of televisions and projection screens emitting a barrage of nonstop flashing images and sound. The shift to screen life has been decades in the making, and generations of tech-savvy artists have been charting those changes. The new exhibition “I’ll Be Your Mirror: Art and the Digital Screen,” opening Feb. 12 at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (MAM), features more than 70 works by 50 artists, for whom the screen is both indispensable tool and irresistible subject. These works include paintings, sculpture, videogames, augmented reality projects and more the 1960s to the present. The show is structured around themes such as connectivity, surveillance and the posthuman body, in which art and screen “intersect most dynamically,” says the show’s organizer, MAM curator Alison Hearst.

After the Nazis branded his paintings "degenerate art", Beckmann and his wife, Mathilde, known as "Quappi", fled Germany in 1937. Eventually a private collection in Switzerland purchased the painting before entrusting it to Villa Grisebach. A spokesperson for Villa Grisebach said the successful bid was 20 million euros and the remainder of the price covered fees. In 2018, Villa Grisebach obtained the highest auction price to date for a painting in Germany when it sold Max Beckmann's 'The Egyptian' for 5.5 million euros.

Nov 23 (Reuters) - Patagonia Inc, the high-end outdoor clothing retailer, filed a lawsuit accusing Gap Inc (GPS.N) of illegally copying the "iconic" snapped flap pocket it has used on fleece outerwear for more than three decades. In a Tuesday night complaint filed in San Francisco federal court, Patagonia said Gap is willfully and deliberately selling fleece jackets that mimic its flap pocket and rectangular "P-6" logo without permission. The lawsuit includes a one-star review posted online by a Gap customer who called a Gap product an "Obvious Pata*gonia ripoff. Patagonia said it introduced its Snap-T pullover fleece in 1985 and added the flap pocket four years later. Among the highlights is Christie's Paul G. Allen Collection, which includes more than 150 pieces spanning 500 years. The collection, from the estate of the late Microsoft co-founder, includes works by Pablo Picasso, Georges Seurat, Paul Cezanne and Lucien Freud. Sotheby's Modern Art Evening Auction will be held on Nov. 14, followed by a Contemporary Evening Auction on Nov. 16. CNN Business —General Motors’ venture capital arm has invested in a California startup that’s making imitation leather from mushrooms. It could provide an alternative to both traditional leather made from animal skins, usually cattle, and artificial leather made from plastics. The resulting material feels like leather, has similar durability and can be colored using processes that do not involve harmful substances, just as animal-based leather can. Using various processes company representatives declined to discuss, the mycelia are made to interweave as they grow, forming the leather-like material. MycoWorks and GM Ventures both declined to say how much GM Venture is investing.

One Russian defense blog has an explanation: HIMARS has a secret feature that prevents Russian artillery from targeting it. "This greatly distinguishes American systems from conventional MLRS [multiple launch rocket systems], where the projectiles fly along a ballistic trajectory.
