Also in an interview this fall, Robert Smith, the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Cure, said dynamic pricing is "driven by greed," calling the practice a "scam." However, with so many recent high-profile tours, "for sure, dynamic pricing has surged to the forefront of concert goers' attention," he said. Throughout the 21st century, revenue from recorded music has gone down while revenue from live music events has gone up. In 2011, Ticketmaster first introduced an early version of dynamic ticket pricing, which is now the standard for live music ticketing sales. "The live music industry is constantly leaving money on the table that fans would pay.

In 2022, Amazon introduced the Buy with Prime button, allowing premium subscribers to make purchases using their Amazon account even when shopping on other websites. At its Reinvent conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Amazon Web Services said a new Buy with AWS button will be available for cloud software partners to embed on their sites as a way for customers to pay. Prominent cloud software vendors like Databricks, Wiz and Workday run their products on top of AWS, as well as other clouds, and will now be able to sell services directly to users with AWS accounts via the new button. Buy with AWS has one key difference in that it's free for software companies to embed. Because the services are running on top of AWS, the purchases result in more revenue for Amazon.

Adam Gray, a Democratic former state lawmaker in California, defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republican incumbent, in a House contest finally decided on Tuesday, nearly a month after Election Day. The contest in California’s vast agricultural heartland, the Central Valley, was the last House race to be determined, giving Democrats 215 seats compared with 220 for Republicans. Though Republicans won more than the 218 seats necessary to control the House, President-elect Trump wants two House members to serve in his administration, and a third, Matt Gaetz, resigned his seat this month. Mr. Gray declared victory on Tuesday evening, two days before counties in California were required to certify their results. The Associated Press had not yet called the race.

His fate will not only depend on whether sufficient Republican senators will defer to the president-elect. That dilemma is especially acute since concern among Republican senators helped derail the Gaetz selection last month. So far, only a small minority of Republican senators have raised questions about Hegseth. But several Republican senators said they hoped such steps would be taken, especially in the case of Hegseth. CNN’s Manu Raju asked North Dakota Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer whether standards had changed since those days.

Chad Chronister, President-elect Donald Trump's selection to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration, said Tuesday that he would withdraw from consideration for the post. "Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration." Trump had tapped Chronister to be DEA administrator, a role within the Department of Justice that requires Senate confirmation, over the weekend. While Scott called Chronister an "incredible pick," some Republicans bristled at his selection for the top DEA role and welcomed his withdrawal. In today’s edition, national political correspondent explains why Republicans may not be able to bank on Donald Trump's coalition moving forward. The GOP’s post-election challenge: Turning Trump voters into full-fledged RepublicansBy Steve KornackiEven with their success, this election revealed a challenge for Republicans going forward: The “Trump coalition” and the “GOP coalition” are not quite the same. That was in Maine in 2020, when voters re-elected Republican Sen. Susan Collins while backing Democrat Joe Biden for president. The first involves voters who were motivated to turn out for Trump, but then skipped all of the other races on the ballot. The other factor the GOP will need to address involves Democratic defectors — traditionally Democratic voters who have essentially made an exception for Trump.

WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Defense Department, Pete Hegseth, is in peril as Senate Republicans grow increasingly concerned over allegations of drinking and reports about his treatment of women. Given Republicans' slim Senate majority in the next Congress, Hegseth, a former Fox News host, can afford to lose only three GOP votes, assuming all Democrats vote against him. Hegseth did not respond when he was asked for comment on those allegations Tuesday evening at the Capitol. Another Trump pick to fill out his Cabinet dropped out of contention last month amid opposition from Senate Republicans. Several Republican senators have continued to downplay the allegations, saying they support Trump’s prerogative to pick his own Cabinet.

A dozen Moscow clubgoers were found guilty of “petty hooliganism” and detained following anti-LGBTQ "propaganda" raids by Russian security forces, according to Russian court documents and local news reports. The raids were executed exactly a year after Russia’s Supreme Court ruled that LGBTQ activists and the LGBTQ “movement” should be designated as extremists. Clubgoers who were not brought into custody were allowed to leave Arma roughly three hours after the raid began, according to Baza. Notably, the Russian government passed legislation in 2013 known as the “gay propaganda law,” making it illegal “to spread information about nontraditional sexual behavior” to minors. The law was expanded to apply to adults, effectively banning public symbols or gestures of “nontraditional sexual relations.” Russians who violate the so-called propaganda law could face up to 400,000 rubles ($6,500) in fines.

But Wall Street doesn’t believe the looming immigration crackdown will live up to Trump’s campaign trail hype. Nearly half of the investors anticipate annual immigration will average between 500,000 and 1 million under Trump, according to Goldman Sachs. The Wall Street bank found that more than 20% of investors expect immigration under Trump will be above the pre-pandemic pace of 1 million per year. “Our forecast is only moderately below the pre-pandemic trend because there are legal and logistical limits to executive action,” Goldman Sachs economists led by Jan Hatzius wrote in the report.
