The three-hour biopic has broken several records since its release last year, becoming the highest-grossing movie set during World War II, according to Universal. As part of its promotional campaign, Universal sought the views of atomic bomb survivor Tomonaga Masao, who is the president of a Nagasaki-based “hibakusha” group — the name survivors call themselves. Oppenheimer’s invention was first used with devastating effect on August 6, 1945, when a US B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Three days later, another B-29, named Bockscar, dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki. The bombings finally prompted Japan to surrender, bringing an end to World War II.

The oversupply of Chinese goods in key industries is stoking tensions between the world’s biggest manufacturer and its major trading partners, including the United States and the European Union. From clothes to carsChina’s exports of low-priced goods got a boost after it joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001. “What China exports is advanced production capacity that meets the needs of foreign customers,” Xinhua News Agency wrote. US President Joe Biden recently pledged to investigate whether imports of Chinese vehicles pose a national security threat. “But perhaps more importantly, persistent oversupply and low prices of Chinese goods will add to geopolitical tensions and keep the threat of tariffs and counter-tariffs alive,” she wrote in a recent note.

First Solar , the largest panel manufacturer in the U.S., expects to receive about $1 billion in tax credits this year for making its products domestically. Eight of the top 10 congressional districts in terms of solar investments are represented by Republicans, according to the think tank. Enphase CEO Badri Kothandaraman is blunt that repealing the IRA tax provisions would hurt domestic manufacturing. WASHINGTON (AP) — Facing a barrage of super PAC money, more than 20 progressive groups are coming together to forcefully counter pro-Israel groups’ efforts to primary challenge liberal members who've been critics of Israel's blistering military offensive in Gaza. The coalition, called Reject AIPAC, includes Jewish peace organizations and Arab American and Muslim groups that have been organizing in record numbers since the Israel-Hamas war began in October. That campaign has turned the otherwise safely Democratic districts into election battlegrounds. Israel’s air and ground offensive has also driven most Palestinians from their homes and pushed one-quarter of the population toward starvation. This comes as AIPAC shifted in its own strategy in the last several years, transitioning from strictly a lobbying organization to helping elect centrist, pro-Israel Democrats.

Many older Americans are financially vulnerable, with over half living on incomes of $30,000 or less a year. And, as Sanders' report notes, about 10% of older Americans live in poverty, according to an analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Without Social Security income, around 38% of Americans 65 and older would be living below the poverty line. Even so, America's Social Security benefits lag behind many other wealthy countries; benefits amount to, on average, 51.8% of workers' earnings across the OECD. All of that comes as older Americans see their adult children leaning on them financially, as Gen Zers and millennials weather their own economic storms.

The Republican caucuses will take place in person across the state beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern time. Instead of secret ballots, participants will move around a room and form groups that will determine how many representatives each candidate will have at district and state conventions held later. Missouri voters may affiliate with a party via their local election authority. While voters are not required to be affiliated with the Republican party in order to caucus, the party is requiring participants to sign a pledge declaring their allegiance. Missouri Democrats will hold a primary on March 23.

Gold prices hovered near a month high on Friday after data suggested easing U.S. price pressures, while traders awaited remarks from several Federal Reserve officials. Gold traders rejoiced the fact that core-PCE slowed annually," City Index senior analyst Matt Simpson said. Money market pricing shows traders are pricing in three quarter-point U.S. rate cuts for 2024. CNN —A federal judge on Thursday held veteran journalist Catherine Herridge in contempt of court, fining her $800 a day for refusing to divulge her sources for a series of stories published in 2017 while she was a correspondent at Fox News. Citing documents reviewed by Fox News, Herridge reported that Chen was the subject of an investigation by the FBI. In an effort to prove her case, Chen subpoenaed Herridge and Fox News, with the hope of unmasking the reporting’s sources. Fox News and Herridge aggressively fought the move, arguing that Cooper should quash the subpoenas because of First Amendment protections afforded to the press. The legislation would offer important safeguards to journalists, including preventing the government from compelling reporters to disclose their sources.
