KYIV, Ukraine—Power was knocked out again in parts of Kyiv on Saturday morning, stirring fresh concerns about the impact of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s electricity supply as winter approaches, while Ukrainian forces continued to push to retake occupied parts of the southern Kherson region. “Today, the enemy launched another barbaric attack on critical infrastructure. As a result, the object of the energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region suffered severe destruction,” Ukrenergo, Ukraine’s electricity-transmission-system operator, wrote on social media Saturday morning.

"Putin knew he would not be able to sustain high-intensity missiles strikes for a long time due to a dwindling arsenal of high-precision missiles," the think tank said. Vorontsov explained the move by citing Moscow's concern about the possibility of the deployment of U.S. nuclear weapons in Poland near the borders of Belarus and Russia. He emphasized that in compliance with the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, Russia had no intention for now of fitting nuclear warheads to Belarusian weapons systems or transferring nuclear warheads to the territory of Belarus. He said the shelling of the city of Nikopol, which is located across the Dnieper from the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, damaged a dozen residential buildings, several stores and a transportation facility. "Working in very challenging conditions, operating staff at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant are doing everything they can to bolster its fragile offsite power situation," Grossi said.

Russia carried out a drone attack in the Kyiv region and Ukraine said it shot down several aerial vehicles in the south, following days of strikes that have galvanized Western support for fortifying Ukraine’s air defenses. Three so-called suicide drones struck an unspecified infrastructure facility in the Makariv area, about 35 miles west of the capital, said the head of the Kyiv region’s military administration, Oleksiy Kuleba. Rescue workers were at the site of the attack, he said, adding that there were no casualties.

Critical infrastructure facilities were hit by drone strikes early on Thursday, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy head of the Volodymyr Zelenskiy's presidential office said on Thursday. "Another attack by kamikaze drones on critical infrastructure facilities," Tymoshenko said on the Telegram messaging app. Ukraine has reported a spate of Russian attacks with Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones in recent weeks. Iran denies supplying the drones to Russia, while the Kremlin has not commented.
After Ukrainian forces stage ambushes and cut off the key access route to the capital, Russian soldiers tell their relatives that the military strategy is failing. … That’s what we’re fucking going to do, it seems. “Frankly speaking, nobody understands why we have to fight this war," Sergey tells his girlfriend. Replay‘I’ll quit at once.’Frustrated by continuous setbacks and fearing for their lives, Russian soldiers say they are fed up with the military. As quickly as they came, the Russian soldiers in northern Kyiv withdrew, regrouped and pivoted east, where Russian-backed separatists have been waging war for over eight years.

Note: As of June 1, 2022 Sources: World Bank, the government of Ukraine and the European CommissionThe report — the first comprehensive damage assessment of the war's impact on Ukraine — provided preliminary figures that will rise as the war continues. Regions like Kyiv and Chernihiv retaken by Ukrainian troops and returned to government control accounted for 22% of damages. Excluding Russia's 91 million-tonne crop projection, USDA shows 2022-23 world wheat output dropping nearly 2% on the year, placing more weight on Russia's crop success and its ability to access world markets. China is routinely excluded from world wheat analyses because of its small part in global trade compared with its massive stockpiles, which will account for a record 54% of global wheat supply by mid-next year according to USDA figures. That major exporter ledger does not include India or Brazil, who have been increasingly relevant in global trade and could potentially expand that footprint. But adding them in does not change the previous conclusion: 2022-23 world wheat stocks-to-use is still set for a 15-year low.
