Those are crazy high benefit-cost ratios, considering that a lot of nonprofits would be happy with a ratio of 10 to 1. I’m citing it because Khan has a new plan to make the ratio, whatever it is, even higher. I watched a TED Talk he gave on April 18 about his A.I. “My intellectual selfishness is that I really like making videos,” Khan told me. (Though he’s no longer the only person making videos.)
Many in the industry, including current and former Microsoft and Amazon executives, wonder whether there's a better job for Bell. It could get intense, with Bell going toe-to-toe with Jassy and getting into disputes with Selipsky. "There were two different sets of security products and actually different security organizations that were securing the products for Microsoft," Bell said. While Bell has imported some processes from Amazon, he has introduced them with a "Microsoft flavor," by using Microsoft productivity tools, one person said. "So many decisions get made at Microsoft by looking at PowerPoints, and sometimes those PowerPoints lack details," Rashid, the former Microsoft and Amazon executive, said.
Often, his stories take a dizzying turn when Grann introduces a new set of facts or a perspective that undermines the narrative he has presented. Rather than trying to lay down a concrete version of events, Grann often invokes a queasy uncertainty that the truth can ever be known. He’s drawn to unsolvable mysteries and stories that explore the fallibility of our perceptions — including his own. “He looked for stories in which an artful manipulation of the reader was an appropriate way to illuminate the story,” said Daniel Zalewski, Grann’s longtime editor at The New Yorker. “Sometimes they were dark entertainments, but because the stakes were real, there was a gravity to them, and a morality to them.”

Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and understand emotions — both your own and the emotions of others. Apple is reportedly launching its Reality Pro smart goggles in June, combining VR and AR. Smart goggles are a tough market, with Google and Microsoft hitting major roadblocks in their efforts. Apple Watch paved the wayFor example, smart watches were out for years before the Apple Watch turned up. It took the Apple Watch to bring the concept into the mainstream. The market for headsets is arguably in a similar situation as the pre-Apple smart watch industry.
It's been a tumultuous period for Quinn and the storied law firm he built over the past 37 years — now the world's largest litigation firm with hourly rates that can be north of $2,000. But behind the scenes, a shift at QE has been the talk of elite law firm circles. Indeed, the firm – known as a singular, even freewheeling, institution that brands itself as the "#1 Most Feared Law Firm in the World" — may appear to be less in the image of its founder as a generational shift brings changes. "We all thought it was important that the world understands this is not a one generation law firm." One former firm partner in California says he believes Quinn's inner circle generally got better deals.
The way tattoos on-screen are commonly done in the entertainment industry is with a sticker. I didn't set out to airbrush tattoos, or to work in film and TV at allI started airbrushing when I was 8. Trump's indictment might appear to open the door to the Republican Party ridding themselves of him. Trump thinks the GOP voters will stand with him. The most recent national poll of Republican voters found that 77% have a favorable view of him. Among key parts of the GOP primary coalition, Trump continues to do quite well. An earlier CNN-SSRS poll found a narrower race between Trump, DeSantis, and the rest of the field, but it also showed that 34% of self-described white evangelicals would name Trump as their preferred pick for the nominee.

Throw in dividends and Santos shareholders have received a measly 6% total return during that period. Santos’ 15% return on capital employed last year puts it at the bottom of the class; BP delivered almost 25%. It looks slated to stay in the basement, with analysts projecting a sub-8% return for 2025, per Refinitiv data. The bonus is mostly tied to successful “growth projects”, which arguably encourages him to overinvest. If that happens again at next month’s annual meeting, it would, under Australian rules, allow investors to boot the entire board.
Jamie Dimon throws Staley off fortress battlements

Suing former employees – in this case using an archaic-sounding doctrine that brands Staley a “faithless servant” – isn't a great look, but the bank led by Jamie Dimon has more reasons than most to defend itself. His $400 billion firm is being pursued for unspecified damages by a woman who argues that it knew of Epstein’s sex trafficking venture, and is also being sued by the government of the U.S. Virgin Islands. The bank has delivered a more than 400% total return to shareholders since Dimon took over in 2006, while talking up its “fortress” balance sheet. If JPMorgan loses either of the lawsuits in which it is a defendant, it wants Staley to share in the damages. Current or future employees might worry they too could find themselves branded a faithless servant for failing to disclose moral missteps, or having clients who fall from grace.

"We never in our wildest dreams thought it was an Oscars type of film," Rogers says. " Everything from the production design to the performances to the camera work to the editing, and that's no accident.

In a statement posted on Twitter, DeSantis' office lauded the ruling without addressing those nuances. By suspending Warren, DeSantis also elevated the Democrat’s political profile in his own party. And no one in Hillsborough County was charged with violating that state law when Warren was the county prosecutor. Court testimony from DeSantis administration officials showed that the abortion letter was the major cause of Warren's suspension. Abortion was the only issue mentioned in the first draft of DeSantis' suspension order.

A judge denied Elon Musk's request to move his securities fraud trial from San Francisco to Texas. Musk's lawyers had claimed too many potential jurors would be biased against him after he took over San Francisco-based Twitter and promptly laid off half of its staff. He petitioned for the trial to take place in Texas instead; Musk moved Tesla's headquarters from Palo Alto, California to Austin, Texas in 2021. After Musk's legal team asked to move the trial, lawyers for the Tesla shareholders in the case responded by poking fun at Musk. Tesla shareholder attorneys poked fun at Elon Musk's attempt to move a trial to Texas in court filing. Last week, Musk's lawyer said a trial should not be held in California due to "local negativity." Attorneys for the investors said the billionaire has a "knack for attracting 'negative' coverage."
