Chaos erupted at JFK on Monday after British Airways grounded its flights out of the US. The airline told Insider the disruption was due to "a technical issue." In a statement to Insider, British Airways said: "We're experiencing delays to some of our flights due to a technical issue with our flight planning." British Airways also told Insider that the technical issue did not affect any flights that have already departed, and is not a safety issue. In a separate statement to the BBC, British Airways said the technical issue affected flights due to depart the US on Monday night.
Arriving passengers line up to get taxi outside of Terminal 4 at the JFK airport in New York. Two New York men were arrested for conspiring with Russian nationals to hack the taxi dispatch system at John F. Kennedy International Airport so they could manipulate the line and charge drivers for access to the front of the queue, federal prosecutors said Tuesday. "I know that the Pentagon is being hacked… so can't we hack the taxi industry[?]" Typically, taxi drivers looking to pick up travelers at JFK wait in a holding lot before they're dispatched to a specific terminal in the order in which they arrived. "For years, the defendants' hacking kept honest cab drivers from being able to pick up fares at JFK in the order in which they arrived," Williams said.
In 2019, Cambodia supplied 8,571 of the 33,818 research monkeys imported to the U.S., or 25%. In 2021, the number of monkeys from Cambodia more than doubled to 18,870, making up nearly 60% of the 31,844 research monkeys brought to America. Earlier this year, long-tailed macaques and pig-tailed macaques were listed as endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The decades long effort by animal rights groups to derail the monkey trade has made some impact. The incident shined a rare spotlight on the monkey trade, which largely goes on outside the view of the public.

A small dog was accidentally sent through the X-ray screening at Dane County Regional Airport in Wisconsin, the Transportation Security Administration said, reminding travelers to check their carry-on bags for pets. "When traveling with any animal, notify your airline & know their rules," the agency's Great Lakes division tweeted Tuesday. A photo showed the dog inside a small black bag. As strange as the incident may be, this is not the first time TSA agents found an animal inside a travel bag. Last month, security officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City discovered a live cat trapped inside checked luggage.
EVERETT, Wash. − Boeing 's final 747 is set to roll out of the company's cavernous factory north of Seattle as airlines' push for more fuel-efficient planes ends the more than half-century production run of the jumbo jet. "It's a very surreal time, obviously," said Kim Smith, vice president and general manager of Boeing's 747 and 767s programs out of the assembly plant here. "For the first time in well over 50 years we will not have a 747 in this facility." The lone 747, covered in a green protective coating, sits inside the company's massive assembly plant in Everett — the largest building in the world by volume, according to Boeing. The end of 747 production doesn't mean the planes will disappear entirely from the skies, since the new ones could fly for decades.

A Utah man accused of holding a straight-edge razor near another passenger's throat on a New York City-to-Salt Lake City flight has been charged with assault, authorities said. He was charged Tuesday with assault with a dangerous weapon on or near aircraft and carrying a weapon on a flight, prosecutors with the U.S. Justice Department’s District of Utah office said. Officials say he boarded a flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport with a concealed straight-edge razor marketed to barbers. The woman said he held the razor near her throat as he told her to pause the movie, according to prosecutors. "He was going to get help because he knew something was really off," the woman told NBC affiliate KSL, who withheld her name.
A TSA agent in New York City spotted a live feline trapped inside checked luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport — but safely got the cat out of the bag, authorities said Tuesday. "The cat did not belong to the individual with the suitcase, it belonged someone else in the household," TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told NBC News. The flagged luggage was taken aside and the cat rescued before the tabby could have ended up in the pressurized cargo hold. It "was implied" that the furball saw the open suitcase and jumped in without the traveler seeing it, Farbstein added. While "none of my current cats are suitcase jumpers," Houpt said she takes no chances and packs her bags on an elevated rack.

REUTERS/Shannon StapletonWASHINGTON, Nov 17 (Reuters) - The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted final environmental approval for construction of a new $4.2 billion terminal at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, the state said on Thursday. New York state Governor Kathy Hochul said construction will begin early next year on a 1.2 million-square foot (111,480-square-meter), 10-gate terminal at JFK. A $1 trillion infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden in 2021 includes $15 billion for airport project grants. The FAA is expected to soon issue a similar environmental approval to a massive $8.5 billion project at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport that includes a new Terminal 2. Delta's glittering 1.3 million-square foot, $4 billion Terminal C began flights this summer.

Jetblue Airways Corp. is scheduled to release earnings figures on July 25. Photographer: Mark Kauzlarich/Bloomberg via Getty ImagesJetBlue Airways plans to launch flights from New York to Paris next summer, a trans-Atlantic expansion it argues will bring down prices on routes dominated by large carriers. Tickets will go on sale "in the coming months" for flights between its hub at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport, JetBlue said Wednesday. It plans to add flights from Boston to Paris later. JetBlue began flights to London from New York in summer 2021, more than two years after it first announced its plans.
JetBlue looks to disrupt United, Delta, and American with the expanded European service. New European routes from JetBlue, United, and Delta tap into pent-up demand for overseas travel. Non-stop service between Boston Logan International Airport and CDG will be added at a later date. The move effectively doubles JetBlue's transatlantic presence following the 2021 launch of service to London from New York and Boston. In pre-pandemic 2019, the lucrative transatlantic travel market accounted for 11% to 17% of passenger revenues at United, Delta, and American airlines, according to Reuters.
United Airlines is planning another big schedule increase for trans-Atlantic travel, in a bet that consumers will continue to shell out for international trips, some of which they had put off for years. Next summer, United says it will fly to 37 cities in Europe, Africa, India and the Middle East, a total it said is more than other U.S. airlines combined. London's Heathrow Airport warned Tuesday that travel demand is "uncertain." It will also offer flights from Washington Dulles International Airport to Berlin on a Boeing 767, starting May 25. Its additions include a nonstop from to Geneva, more London service and a resumption of daily Berlin flights, all from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

UNITED NATIONS—Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov ’s trip to New York started off as one might expect for a diplomat from a pariah state: His government plane was forced to fly a circuitous route around European nations due to flight restrictions, landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport after dark on Tuesday. His visit for the United Nations General Assembly continued along those lines Thursday, when Moscow’s senior diplomat strode out of the Security Council meeting, accused of dishonesty and mocked by his diplomatic colleagues for a lack of courage.

International passengers walk through the arrivals area at Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport on November 26, 2021 in London, England. United is also telling staff about the challenges with overseas travel this summer and to prioritize customers, a spokesman said. Strains at some European airports could persist after the peak summer travel season. Correction: American Airlines has barred staff from only using their flight benefits for personal travel from London Heathrow Airport through "at least" Sept. 11.
