TikTok has briefly suspended the account of Hey Jane, a prominent telemedicine abortion service, four times without explanation. The groups and women’s health advocates say these examples, all from recent months, show why they are increasingly confused and frustrated by how major technology platforms moderate posts about abortion services. They say the companies’ policies on abortion-related content, including advertisements, have long been opaque. And when the platforms do restrict the accounts, the companies can be difficult to contact to learn why. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, an organization dedicated to abolishing abortion, said big technology companies had routinely limited its and other groups’ pro-life speech, suspending accounts and blocking ads with little explanation.

The CEOs of artificial intelligence heavyweights Google DeepMind, Microsoft AI, Anthropic and Mistral AI are among the elite list of business and political leaders attending a secretive meeting kicking off in Madrid, Spain, on Thursday. AI will once again dominate discussions at the annual Bilderberg Meeting after catapulting onto the agenda last year following the meteoric rise of the burgeoning technology. U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg are also among the political figures who will attend for geopolitical discussions including on China and Russia. According to its organizers, the closed nature of the event aims to foster "informal discussions about major issues."

☆ Ulta Beauty lowers guidance after first-quarter sales slowdown

Ulta Beauty reported on Thursday fiscal first-quarter earnings that showed the effects of a slowdown its CEO had previously warned about. Ulta reported that it is now expecting net sales in the range of $11.5 billion to $11.6 billion and comparable sales in the range of 2% to 3%. The company previously guided to full-year net sales of $11.7 billion to $11.8 billion and comparable sales of 4% to 5%. Ulta CEO Dave Kimbell in April warned of cooling demand in the beauty category at an investor conference. AI-powered beauty company Oddity Tech recently told CNBC the industry isn't seeing so much a slowdown, but a shift.
