A burning body was discovered in a driveway of a home in Northeast Philadelphia early Tuesday morning, as police describe the death as “suspicious.”The Philadelphia police and fire departments responded to a report of a fire in a driveway in the 8000 block of Leonard Street shortly after 3 a.m., and found a man “with severe burns laying in the driveway,” officials said in a news release. The man, whose age was not known, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:23 a.m.A gas can and struck matches were found near the body, police said. The body was taken to the medical examiner's office and the investigation is ongoing. NBC News has reached out Philadelphia medical examiner's office for comment. A fence neighboring the driveway appeared to be damaged by the fire and NBC Philadelphia reported a K-9 officer was sniffing for clues at the scene early Tuesday.

No foul play is suspected in the death of the 19-year-old Walmart employee whose body was found in the store’s walk-in oven in Canada last month, police said Monday. Halifax Regional Police had responded on a report of a sudden death to the Walmart at 6990 Mumford Rd. The young woman was identified as Kaur by the Maritime Sikh Society in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which launched a fundraiser on behalf of the family last month. The organization said Kaur was discovered by her mother, who also worked at the store. The Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration also said it issued a stop-work order on Oct. 22 for the Walmart’s bakery and a piece of equipment at the store.

WASHINGTON — The House Ethics Committee plans to meet Wednesday to discuss its report into former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, a source familiar with the meeting confirmed on Monday. But the committee lost jurisdiction over Gaetz when he resigned from the House on Thursday and has not released any public report on its probe. On Friday, an attorney said that his client testified privately before the Ethics Committee that she personally witnessed Gaetz have sex with a minor. The House Ethics panel had been scheduled to discuss the report at its regular Friday meeting but it was postponed after Gaetz resigned. Appearing on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday, Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said senators should "absolutely" have access to the House report.

LONDON — Burglars broke into the grounds of Britain's royal Windsor Castle in October and stole two vehicles, it has emerged. The estate is the primary residence of Prince William, Princess Kate and their family. William, Kate and their three children live at nearby Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, a few miles from where the incident took place. King Charles III and Queen Camilla's primary residence is Clarence House in London, close to the monarch's official residence of Buckingham Palace. On Christmas Day in 2021, a man armed with a crossbow climbed a fence at Windsor Castle, and claimed he wanted to kill Queen Elizabeth II who was staying at the castle at the time.

CNN —Pope Francis has said that allegations of a genocide in Gaza should be “carefully investigated” marking some of his strongest criticism yet of Israel’s war in the territory. “According to some experts… what is happening in Gaza has the characteristics of a genocide,” Vatican News, the Holy See’s official news outlet, cited the pontiff as writing in a forthcoming book. Pope Francis rarely comments on politics, often limiting his remarks to calls for peace. He lamented that “unarmed civilians are targets for bombs and gunfire” in Gaza and invoking scripture on war. In 2023, about 4,600 adults age 60 and older reported being defrauded of a six-figure sum, according to a report the FTC issued in October. Such thefts can be especially devastating to older adults, who have less opportunity to earn back what they've lost, greatly impacting their quality of life in old age, experts said. Common scams targeting older AmericansConsumers overall lost $10 billion to scams in 2023, a record high, according to the FTC. Older adults were 60% more likely than younger ones to report losses exceeding $100,000 last year, according to the FTC. Criminals commonly stole such vast sums from older adults via romance scams, investment frauds and imposter scams, the FTC said.
