CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris declined to preside over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. Harris’ aide cited a previously scheduled event as the reason for missing the speech Wednesday. A date for the Netanyahu-Harris meeting has not been announced, but it will be separate from President Joe Biden’s planned meeting with the Israeli prime minister. The closely watched bilateral will mark Harris’ first meeting with a world leader since Biden stepped aside from his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris’ candidacy. Organizers for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics plan to hold swimming in the home of the NFL’s Rams and Chargers — and softball and canoe slalom in Oklahoma. That’s according to an amended venue plan unveiled Friday by LA28, the 2028 Games’ organizing committee. It will be the largest swimming venue in Games history, per LA28, with 38,000 seats. LA28 organizers faced one complication with the SoFi swimming plan, however: The stadium is also set to be part of the Games’ opening ceremonies. The venue plan adjustments are in part due to new arenas that have become available for use and a previously assigned venue that became unavailable, LA28 said.

CNN —Swimmer Lilly King might be aiming for Olympic glory next month, but she got at least one of her rings early after her longtime boyfriend proposed to her following her race at the US Olympic trials. After coming second in the 200m breaststroke final in Indianapolis on Thursday, the double Olympic gold medallist was greeted by boyfriend James Wells on the pool deck. King had already qualified for her third Summer Games by winning the 100m breaststroke final on Monday. After winning gold in the women’s 100m breaststroke at Rio 2016, King was part of the US team to claim gold in the women’s 4x100m medley relay at the same Games. She won the 100m breaststroke world title in world record time a year later at the 2019 World Championships, and helped the US break the 4x100m medley relay world record.

CNN —Caitlin Clark’s double-double helped the Indiana Fever beat the Washington Mystics 88-81 on Wednesday in Indianapolis to win their third straight. Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell had a team-high 22 points each and both shot a supremely efficient 72.7% from the floor. It’s the first time since 2015 that the Fever have enjoyed a four-game home winning streak. “Whenever they went on a run, we always found a way to respond,” Clark told NBA TV of the team’s resilience. Clark and the Fever now go on a five-game road trip, which begins against the Atlanta Dream on Friday.

Almost 72 million people across the country were under warnings of extreme heat Monday morning, the National Weather Service said. With Thursday's seasonal solstice taking place amid a weeklong heat wave expected for the East Coast and the Midwest, the summer of 2024 is coming in hot. Extreme heat warnings were in place for Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Boston, New York City and Albany, New York. The weather service office for Pittsburgh said it "could be the most impactful heat wave of the 21st century." The weather service is also on the lookout for any possible tropical storms developing in the Gulf, it said.

CNN —US swimming star Katie Ledecky qualified for her fourth Olympic Games by winning the 400m freestyle on Saturday at the US Swimming Olympic Team Trials.
