Tim Graham | Getty ImagesIndia "clearly has a problem" figuring out new drivers for its economic growth even as its economy expands at a fast pace, JPMorgan's Jahangir Aziz said, following the country's union budget. "If you look at India over the last two years post the pandemic, recorded growth has been strong. But if you look at the drivers of growth, it's essentially these two: Public infrastructure and services export," Aziz, chief emerging markets economist at JPM, told CNBC's "Street Signs Asia" on Tuesday. According to estimates by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, India's services exports will likely hit $30.3 billion in June, compared with $27.8 billion in the same month last year. According to the International Monetary Fund's latest World Economic Outlook, the country's growth is predicted to decline to 6.5% in 2025.

Nirmala Sitharaman, India's finance minister, leaves the ministry to present the budget at the parliament in New Delhi, India, on July 23, 2024. India's finance ministry on Tuesday lowered the country's fiscal deficit target to 4.9% for the financial year ending March 2025, a revision from 5.1% during the pre-election interim budget published back in February. That target will then fall to 4.5% or lower for the financial year ending March 2026, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during the announcements. "This is imperative for attracting foreign investment and sustaining growth," he said, adding that "unprecedented financial support" from the central bank will make the fiscal deficit target possible. "We will endeavor to maintain strong fiscal support for infrastructure over the next five years, in conjunction with imperatives of other priorities and fiscal consolidation."

Practical purchases dominated this year's Amazon Prime Day in the US, the 48 hours of mega-discounts that generate billions in sales. Last year, consumer electronics and cosmetics were among the top Prime Day purchases, CNBC reported. Adobe Analytics forecasted before the mega-sale that this year's Prime Day would hit a record $14 billion in sales, breaking 2023's record by 10.5%. And it's too early to know what Amazon shoppers bought around the world: Some countries' Prime Day sales stretch for nearly a week, while India's Prime Day happens later this summer. "It was Christmas in July quite frankly — a bigger day than Black Friday," Brian Olsavsky, Amazon's CFO, told investors after the company's first Prime Day.

BARCELONA, SPAIN - FEBRUARY 26: A logo sits illuminated at the Nokia booth in the Mobile World Congress 2024 on February 26, 2024 in Barcelona, Spain. (Photo by Xavi Torrent/Getty Images)Shares of Finnish telecom firm Nokia tumbled on Thursday after the company reported a 32% drop in second-quarter operating profit on the back of weak demand for its 5G equipment. Earlier in the day, Nokia said its comparable operating profit declined to 423 million euros ($462 million) in the second quarter, down by nearly a third from the 619 million euros posted in the same period of last year. Citing "ongoing market weakness," the company said net sales also eased by 18% to 4.47 billion euros – the lowest level achieved since the fourth quarter of 2015, according to LSEG data. The landscape likewise remains "challenging as operators continue to be cautious" in the mobile networks sector, he warned.

Just as it does with electric cars, the government of India's most populous state will also waive the registration tax on some hybrid car sales, it said in a July 5 notification. Hybrid cars offer fuel savings as they operate on both electric motors and combustion engines. "This is a sizeable incentive provided by a state for hybrid cars.
