The season finale of HBO's "House of the Dragon" reportedly leaked online 2 days before it was supposed to air. The episode was leaked on Friday, two days before its air date. While this is the first reported leak for the "Game of Thrones" spinoff, HBO has a long history of dealing with piracy. In August 2017, hackers leaked episodes of HBO's "Insecure," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and a reported draft script of a yet-to-air episode of "Game of Thrones." The hacks led HBO to make the decision to film multiple "Game of Thrones" endings in an effort to throw off would-be leakers from spoiling the series finale.
The streaming company gained over 2 million subscribers — avoiding the third straight quarter of subscriber losses. The results appear to have been enough for Netflix to take a victory lap. "We're in the business of entertaining our members with Netflix movies on Netflix," he said. It will stop providing membership guidance in future earnings reports. In other words, Netflix continues to think that the future of entertainment is still, undeniably, Netflix.

The Google Trends data shows that the "Dahmer" search term skyrocketed in interest after its debut, well past the "Rings of Power" and "House of Dragon" search terms. As the Google Trends chart shows, the ability to watch all of 'Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story' helped drive significant interest in the show."
Amazon's "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" may have struggled to attract young viewers. 71% of the show's audience is 35 years or older in the US, according to Nielsen's latest streaming data from Thursday, which measured through the show's fourth episode. Google Trends data shows that searches for "House of the Dragon" have greatly outpaced "The Rings of Power" over the last month. Julia Alexander, director of strategy at Parrot Analytics, tweeted recently that "The Rings of Power" is "a hit, except it feels like it's not." YouTuber Vincent Teoh analyzed the dimly lit "House of the Dragon" episode that sparked backlash. He found that it could auto-dim on some TVs because of how dark it had been graded to. YouTuber Vincent Teoh, whose channel HDTVTest has 465,000 subscribers, tested the brightness himself in a new video and concluded that yes, the beach scene that sparked fans' ire was really, really dark. Teoh had to change the settings on the TV in order to adjust the brightness, because it had auto-dimmed. "Game of Thrones" was also hit with criticism of too-dark scenes, such as for the final-season episode "The Long Night."
In “House of the Dragon,” one of the biggest challenges on the set was making sure everyone’s wigs stayed that very specific shade of Targaryen blond. “When blood gets in them, blood is in them. The blood is not coming out,” said Rosalia Culora, the show’s co-hair designer. The workaround for gory scenes, Ms. Culora said, was to designate “blood wigs” for characters and their stunt doubles, which resulted in frequent wig changes throughout the filming period. “It was a puzzle, and hopefully with a good result, where people have got a flawless viewing and are not seeing pink wigs,” she said.

Create more “Game of Thrones,” of course. Enter “House of the Dragon,” a prequel that takes place almost 200 years before the events of its predecessor and focuses on the Targaryen family. To put that number into context, season seven of “Game of Thrones” averaged 32.7 million viewers per episode, and season 8, its final season, averaged 46 million viewers. (It doesn’t hurt that “Game of Thrones” is pretty much like watching sports, albeit with more dragons.)

But for "House of the Dragon," I've found that it's necessary and supplemental. I've also been watching Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" with subtitles, for similar reasons. With a recent survey revealing that people are increasingly using them, I took a look at the case for — and against —turning on subtitles. Subtitles can also be helpful if your TV doesn't have the best sound quality (although there are ways to adjust that). "House of the Dragon" and "The Rings of Power" are some of the best-looking shows on TV, and the subtitles can distract from the beautiful imagery.
“Game of Thrones” killed off major characters. “House of the Dragon” is recasting them. The sixth episode of HBO’s new spinoff introduced new actors in existing roles, including the two most important ones: a princess and a queen at the center of a mounting war of succession. The casting shuffle was designed to signify a 10-year time jump in the story’s chronology, and the characters’ shift from adolescence to adulthood.

The strides made in terms of greater inclusion have coincided with debate about how those characters are portrayed and the fates that they meet, giving rise to a much-discussed trope known as "Bury Your Gays." The phrase refers to a history in which gay characters have disproportionately died as a plot device, creating the impression they are more expendable in the eyes of storytellers.
