Almost a year after he was acquitted of all counts of shooting three people, killing two of them, Kyle Rittenhouse says he's launching a YouTube channel. The protests erupted in Kenosha after a police officer shot Jacob Blake, leaving him paralyzed. Rittenhouse was charged with homicide and attempted homicide in the Aug. 25, 2020, killings of Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber, and the wounding of Gaige Grosskreutz. A jury found Rittenhouse not guilty of all counts Nov. 19. In June, he tweeted that he was planning to attend Blinn College in Texas, with a plan to attend Texas A&M in 2023.

LOS ANGELES — A man was killed and 12 other people were injured after a car crashed into a food stand Friday night, officials said. Aerial helicopter footage from NBC Los Angeles showed the sedan crashed into what appeared to be a cooking stove on the sidewalk. In addition to the person who died, 12 other people were injured, three of whom were in critical condition, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Craig Little said. The crash happened near the intersection of West Holt Ave and Dudley Street. The driver was going east and went into opposite lanes of traffic before crashing into the food stand, Mejia said.

Border patrol officials found Tuesday what the agency said was $400,000 worth of methamphetamine hidden inside pumpkins at the U.S-Mexico border in Texas, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. CBP said 136 condoms were filled with 44 pounds of liquid methamphetamine and hidden inside four pumpkins. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers found nearly 44 pounds of liquid meth inside pumpkins near the U.S-Mexico border in Texas on Tuesday. On Oct. 2, CBP officers found 36 pounds of meth — worth an estimated $328,000 — in a vehicle at the same port of entry, according to the agency. In September at the Del Rio Port of Entry, which is also along the border Texas, CBP said $11.9 million worth of methamphetamine was found in a tractor-trailer.

Georgia officials said Wednesday night that they think a 20-month-old toddler who was reported missing a week ago is dead. "We are saddened to report that CCPD and the FBI have notified Quinton Simon’s family that we believe he is deceased," police said. Quinton was reported missing from his home in an unincorporated part of the county near Savannah on Oct. 5, police have said. It was not immediately clear whether the toddler's mother had an attorney. The FBI has also been involved since the boy was reported missing, he said.

An Ohio man who tried to kill a woman’s boyfriend with a homemade bomb placed in a gift box pleaded guilty Wednesday to federal charges that carry up to 30 years in prison, prosecutors said. Clayton Alexander McCoy, 32, pleaded guilty to one count each of transporting explosives with intent to injure and possession of an unregistered firearm/explosive device, prosecutors said. He was rejected by the victim's girlfriend and then built the homemade bomb and delivered it to the boyfriend’s home in Carroll County to kill him, according to the prosecutor’s office. The homemade bomb was a pipe filled with shrapnel, such as ball bearings and other pieces of metal, according to court documents. The victim opened the box in a bedroom, and no one else was injured in the explosion, according to court documents.

A body believed to be that of a California woman reported missing two months ago was found at a wrecked car that apparently went off a cliff, officials said Tuesday. Jolissa Fuentes, 22, was reported missing Aug. 8 after she didn’t return home and couldn’t be reached, police said. A former San Antonio police officer who shot a teenager while he sat in his car in a McDonald's parking lot has been arrested on two counts of assault, police said Tuesday. James Brennand, who was an officer with the San Antonio Police Department when the shooting occurred, turned himself in Tuesday and was arrested, Police Chief William McManus said. Eight Akron police officers on leave after being involved in the fatal shooting of Jayland Walker will return to duty but in administrative roles, the city’s police chief said Tuesday. The officers were placed on paid administrative leave following the fatal shooting of Walker, 25, who was shot 46 times in a hail of police gunfire during a foot chase June 27. The death of Walker, who was Black, sparked protests in Akron, demands for a transparency and accountability, and a federal investigation. After Walker got out of the car and ran on foot, officers chased him and opened fire. Police said when body camera footage of the shooting was released that Walker turned towards officers before he was shot.

The Coast Guard rescued three boaters from the water off Louisiana on Sunday, two of whom were “fending off sharks” when rescuers arrived, officials said. When crews aboard a helicopter and a 45-foot Coast Guard boat found them in the water around 2 p.m. Sunday, the boat crew “witnessed two of the boaters fending off sharks," along with injuries to both boaters' hands, the Coast Guard said. A Coast Guard helicopter rescues three boaters Sunday about 25 miles off Empire, La. The sharks were reported to be blacktips, Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Graves said. The Coast Guard credited the relative who reported the boaters overdue and the fact that all were wearing life jackets with helping lead to the successful rescue.

Chicago police are looking for a man who they say attacked and sexually abused an 11-year-old girl last week as she walked home from school. The attack happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Washington Park neighborhood, police said in a statement. The attacker, described as a man 45 to 60 years old, grabbed the girl from behind, put his hand over her mouth, pulled her into an alley and sexually abused her, police said. The attack involved a student at Dulles Elementary School, a K-8 campus. By Monday there had been no arrests, Chicago police said, and detectives continued to investigate.

Hurricane Ian had weakened to a Category 1 late Wednesday, but the powerful storm that caused life-threatening storm surges, floods that stranded people in their homes and knocked out power to more than 2 million was not over, officials warned. At 2 a.m., Ian was around 55 miles southwest of Cape Canaveral and moving northeast at 9 mph, the hurricane center said. The storm is believed to be one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded making landfall in Florida. Central and northeast Florida could get 20 inches of rain, and life-threatening storm surge remained a risk for parts of Florida’s western and eastern coasts, the hurricane center said. But it then will likely turn north and approach the northeastern Florida, Georgia and South Carolina coasts Friday, according to the hurricane center.

Rapper Coolio, known for hits including "Fantastic Voyage" and "Gangsta's Paradise," has died at age 59, his manager confirmed Wednesday evening. Coolio, whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., had a music career that spanned more than three decades. Coolio won a Grammy for "Gangsta's Paradise," which was released in 1995 and spent three weeks at the top of Billboard's Hot 100 list. Coolio was also known for hits including "Fantastic Voyage," "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)" and "C U When U Get There," among others. He was nominated for five other Grammys, including for "Fantastic Voyage" and "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)."

Ian was in the Caribbean Sea on Sunday night, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph, the National Hurricane Center said, but the storm was intensifying. It was forecast to skirt western Florida on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency for all of Florida because of the threat, and the Florida National Guard activated 2,500 service members. Tropical storm warnings covered the Cuban provinces of La Habana, Mayabeque and Matanzas, and Little Cayman and Cayman Brac were under a tropical storm watch. The entire western coast of Florida is vulnerable to storm surge, said Rhome, of the National Hurricane Center.

President Joe Biden on Saturday approved an emergency declaration for Florida as the state faces a potential major hurricane from what is now Tropical Storm Ian, the White House said. It could approach Florida’s western coast by Wednesday or Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. On Saturday, the governor expanded that to apply statewide, citing the risk of a major hurricane making landfall on Florida’s western coast. A hurricane warning was in place for Grand Cayman and tropical storm watches were in place for Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Ten people died in the U.S. directly from the storms, and there were 82 “indirect” deaths, most of which were in Florida, according to a National Hurricane Center report.

Hundreds of thousands of Canadians were without power Saturday after former hurricane Fiona slammed into the country’s Atlantic provinces, causing what officials called a shocking and devastating amount of damage. More than 471,000 customers across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island New Brunswick and Newfoundland were without power Saturday, according to utilities. “PEI (Prince Edward Island) has experienced storm damage like they’ve never seen. Fifteen deaths in Puerto Rico and two deaths in the Dominican Republic have been tied to the storm, officials there said. In Prince Edward Island, King, the premier, said Saturday that the damage is most likely the worst the province has ever seen.

Residents of Nova Scotia and other parts of Canada were bracing for hurricane-force winds and a potential historic storm surge as Hurricane Fiona approached Friday. “It is going to be certainly a historic extreme event for Eastern Canada,” said Bob Robichaud, warning preparedness meteorologist with the Canadian Hurricane Centre, at a briefing Friday. At 9 p.m. Halifax time, the storm was “accelerating quickly” toward Nova Scotia, Canada’s hurricane center said. Damage in Nova Scotia was estimated at almost $102 million, the CBC reported. In 2003 Canada was hit by Hurricane Juan, a Category 2 storm at landfall that ripped through Nova Scotia.

A Florida Keys boat captain was arrested on a manslaughter charge Thursday in connection with a deadly parasailing trip this year, officials said. An arrest warrant accused the captain, Daniel Gavin Couch, 49, of not checking the weather before the May 30 trip and then cutting the towline to his passengers’ parasail during strong winds. Couch was arrested Thursday by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on a warrant for one charge of manslaughter and five counts of violation of commercial parasailing statutes, the commission said. The FWC said Couch hadn’t recently checked weather conditions before he took 12 passengers on the parasailing trip May 30. Cutting the towline was called a “gross and flagrant decision” that severed the group’s only means of safe return.
