A Fulton County DA's Office investigator "accidentally" shot herself at the courthouse. The woman shot herself in the leg on Friday, according to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office. "The shooting was an accidental discharge by a Fulton County District Attorney's Office investigator who wounded herself. "A Fulton County Sheriff's Office deputy responded and administered aid until EMS arrived," a press release from the sheriff's office also said, ABC News reported. The Fulton County courthouse was the site of Donald Trump and his co-defendants' arraignments after he was charged for his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

At least 22 states have now enacted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors. “His depression, his anxiety had pretty much dissipated because he was receiving the gender-affirming care,” Thurow said. Four other defendants besides Meadows already have made such requests. A judge on Friday rejected a request by Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to move his Georgia election conspiracy criminal case to federal court in Atlanta. Other than Trump, Meadows was seen by experts as having the best shot at transferring the case to federal court because he held a federal post and lived in Washington, D.C. at the time of the alleged crimes. The federal court in Atlanta is seen as a potentially more favorable venue for the defendants than the state court because its jury pool is drawn from a larger area, and thus is likely to include more Republicans.

The appeals court panel was entirely comprised of judges appointed by Republican presidents. The 11th Circuit hears appeals from Georgia as well, and after it ruled, the state's Republican attorney general, Chris Carr, urged Geraghty to vacate her injunction. Republican lawmakers in several states have passed laws restricting medical treatments for transgender minors. The law also prevents minors from receiving gender-affirming surgeries, though that provision was not at issue in the case before Geraghty.

Since lawyers Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell have both filed speedy trial demands, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said their trial would begin Oct. 23, but he seemed skeptical of prosecutors’ arguments that all 19 defendants could be tried together that soon. The judge said Chesebro and Powell would be tried together starting on the Oct. 23 trial date already set for Chesebro to comply with their demands for a speedy trial. Four other defendants who are also seeking to move their cases to federal court have hearings set before Jones later this month. Whenever and wherever any trial in the case ultimately takes place, jury selection is likely to be a challenge. Jury selection in a racketeering and gang case brought last year by Willis began in January and is still ongoing.

A handful of GOP Georgia lawmakers are trying to impeach or defund District Attorney Fani Willis. The state's House and Senate leaders, however, said the push is 'theatrics' and unlikely to succeed. The impeachment calls come after a grand jury indicted Trump in relation to the 2020 election. "We simply do not have those votes" for a special session, Gooch said, adding that it would require Democratic support. And in the event that a special session does happen, he noted that there would never be enough votes in the state Senate to impeach her.
