Positioning in financial stocks is light relative to other sectors, Morgan Stanley says. AdvertisementInvestors are lingering in defensive trades that don't take advantage of the economy's strength, Morgan Stanley said, highlighting opportunities in underinvested sectors. The firm — which just last week upgraded cyclical stocks to "overweight" relative to defensives — described the financials group as particularly attractive. Morgan Stanley said net exposure to financials was in the bottom 15th percentile of a historical data series that goes back to 2010. Morgan Stanley noted that this weakness lowered earnings-season expectations for investors, making it easier for major lenders to outperform forecasts.

The firm also forecasts that the company can drive 7% to 11% pharmaceuticals sales growth over the next 10 years, given that 80% of its delivery systems are protected by intellectual property tools such as patents. This time of year typically tests nerves, more so when — as now — an election is onrushing and the S & P 500 was already up 20% for the year. Since June 30, the equal-weighted S & P 500 has gained 9.5%, more than triple the Nasdaq 100's rise. A buyer at the mid-July S & P 500 peak of 5667 sustained a quick 8% tumble in three weeks. U.S. crude oil on Friday was on pace to eek out its second weekly gain in a row as Israel prepares to retaliate against Iran. Oil prices have gained more than 10% through Thursday's close since Iran hit Israel with ballistic missiles last week. Here are Friday's energy prices:Israel's security cabinet met Thursday to discuss the country's response to Iran's attack, according to media reports. Traders have worried that Israel will hit Iran's oil industry, potentially triggering a cycle of escalation that causes a significant disruption of supplies in the Middle East. Croft warned, however, that the U.S. influence may have waned since April, when Israel's response to Iran's first missile and drone attack was relatively muted.

Klaudia Radecka | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesTesla 's hyped robotaxi unveiling posed a threat to Uber 's ride-sharing aspirations, but it has turned into a boon for the stock instead. That is a massive turnaround for Uber's stock, which is now up nearly 22% over the past month and about 38% for the year. "We believe this helps minimize the ongoing overhang on UBER's stock from TSLA's aspirations in the robotaxi space." Although Tesla appears committed to developing its robotaxi fleet without partnering with existing ride-sharing platforms, Colantuoni expects it could ultimately have to look into this option. Tesla "potentially underappreciates the obstacles to scaling a robotaxi fleet" and could struggle to scale its fleet operations without offering access to demand through Uber and Lyft, he said.

After Wall Street balked at Tesla 's highly-anticipated robotaxi unveiling, CNBC's Jim Cramer told investors not to make any moves on the stock. While he said he wouldn't recommend buying Tesla after Thursday night's event flopped, Cramer discouraged shorting the stock, saying it's "dangerous to bet against" CEO Elon Musk. While impressed by the look and concept of the robotaxi, Cramer said the event's demonstration lacked substance and failed to prove its technological prowess. By Friday's close, Tesla stock was down 8.78%, and Cramer said the market's reaction speaks for itself. "Look, Tesla has a big problem: the electric vehicle market turned out to be substantially smaller than was thought," Cramer said.

Jamie Dimon said he expects to stay at JPMorgan "for a long period" rather than join the government. One way that Dimon might do that after stepping down as CEO is to stay on as chairman. "I intend to be doing what I'm doing — I almost guarantee I'll be doing this — for a long period of time, or at least until the board kicks me out," he said. (The firm has previously said it intends to separate the CEO and chairman roles after Dimon steps down.) The Wells Fargo analyst on Friday suggested Dimon has been commenting on government pontifications in the past year more than at any other time in his career, raising questions about his political aspirations.
