Another Donald Trump presidency was an inevitability, Steve Eisman of "The Big Short" fame told Bloomberg TV, first in early May and again in mid-July. AdvertisementDespite his bullish call on Trump, Eisman — who said he voted for Biden in 2020 — wasn't openly rooting for either candidate. "For the overall market, I don't think it matters who's president," Eisman said. "If Harris wins and both houses of Congress go Democratic, I think the market would probably have a very large correction," Eisman said. "If Trump wins and both houses are Republican, the market is fine, but there'll be certain sectors that will not do well and certain sectors that will."

Apple spent much of the presentation emphasizing how the iPhone 16 was "built from the ground up to deliver Apple Intelligence." For me, the most interesting features coming to Apple Intelligence are the Writing Tools, AI-generated emojis, and the camera's visual intelligence capabilities. He said the keynote video doesn't do the new iPhone 16 lineup justice. AdvertisementThe tech giant reportedly began briefing its retail employees on all things Apple Intelligence weeks before the iPhone 16 lineup launch. It seems to me that Apple is gearing up to have consumers see its new AI tech for themselves before deciding to upgrade.

During my three-day visit in August, I stayed at a tiny home by Tiny Away for one night. AdvertisementLaunched by a Singaporean tiny home startup called Big Tiny in May 2023, Tiny Away features five tiny houses that measure around 139 square feet each — or slightly smaller than an average parking space. Tiny Away is currently the only option for those who want to try tiny house living without going abroad. For one, there's a glamping resort on Lazarus Island that offers stays for a similar price to Tiny Away. But Tiny Away strikes me as ideal for guests looking for some solitude or a chance to experience the city-state minus all the high rises.

The controversial plan to regreen a desert

The Dutch engineer wants to transform a huge stretch of inhospitable desert into green, fertile land teeming with wildlife. “The only holistic way out of this situation is with large-scale ecological regeneration”So-called desert regreening projects are not new, and this is one of a number around the world seeking to transform arid landscapes. Costfoto/NurPhoto/Getty ImagesFor van der Hoeven, it was further proof his plan could work. “The scale reaches a level that helps prove that restoration can be done on a planetary scale.”It would add to other huge desert regreening projects also underway. The project was scheduled to kick off this December, but conflict has slowed everything down, van der Hoeven said.

Data analytics and decision-makingIn the digital economy, data is gold. Those organizations that leverage data and data analytics well can improve the customer experience and move out in front of competitors. With advancements in data analytics, companies can take advantage of real-time data processing, predictive analytics, and AI-powered analytics to make informed decisions quickly, Gilchrist said. AI, as neededYes, companies should continue to invest in AI solutions, but in many cases with a more discerning approach. "AI investments should focus on areas where automation, predictive analytics, or AI-driven insights can solve specific business problems or create new revenue streams."

When researching the properties, he confirmed their tax status as short-term rentals on the county site. Jason Gobey, another short-term rental owner, told BI he researched and spoke to real-estate agents as well as others before buying his one-bedroom condo in Kihei in 2019. He also said he confirmed the property's tax status as a short-term rental and had no idea there could be an issue with it. Though some of the Minatoya List properties will likely be converted to long-term rentals, Church said it is not financially feasible for him. But the benefit of adding the Minatoya List properties to the housing stock is that they are already built.

The auction house believes this to be the highest sum ever paid for an artwork at a Maine auction. Thomaston Place Auction GallerieLost from the recordsRembrandt scholar Gary Schwartz said a potential buyer had earlier sought his opinion on the Maine portrait. 03:09 - Source: CNNArt historian Volker Manuth, who authored publisher Taschen’s 2019 monograph “Rembrandt: The Complete Paintings,” told CNN he was also approached by a potential buyer of the Maine portrait. But inclusion in a major catalog, or the backing of a big auction house, can increase a painting’s value manyfold. Schwartz suggested that, should the Maine portrait receive similar endorsement, it might be revalued at up to $5 million.

CNNOver the last few decades, a growing number of Christians have left traditional, predominantly White evangelical churches. The post-evangelical movement predates former President Donald Trump’s political rise, but has been accelerated by his alliance with White conservative evangelical leaders. White evangelicals have been a key part of the Republican coalition since the 1980s. The exit polls estimated that 26% of 2016 voters and 28% of 2020 voters were White evangelicals. Still, Trump has maintained overwhelming support among White evangelicals since consolidating their support during the 2016 Republican primary.

But soon after graduating, McRuer made an unlikely early-career pivot, ditching his dependable product design job to pursue his passion for film. The 2019 graduate studied product design at Stanford's School of Engineering. The internship quickly evolved into a full-time product design position. He initially thought he could get his filmmaking fix via a hobby that played second fiddle to his engineering work. But McRuer said he was ultimately surprised by the overlaps he's seen working in both engineering and film — particularly when producing.

Chase Bank said it was reviewing incidents of individuals who may have participated in an online check fraud "glitch" trend and referring them to law enforcement authorities. In fact, the meme was prompting users to commit check fraud by requesting cash they didn't have after depositing a phony check for the amount they were seeking. Criminal statutes on the severity of punishment for instances of check fraud vary by state. In California, misdemeanor check fraud charges can carry a one-year prison term plus financial penalties. In New York, misdemeanor check fraud can entail up to three months in jail and a fine.

Judge puts $2.78 billion NCAA settlement on hold
  + stars: | 2024-09-06 | by ( ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +2 min
Reuters —The proposed $2.78 billion settlement of the House v. NCAA antitrust case is on hold after U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken expressed reservations about the terms on Thursday in Oakland, California. Wilken stated her concern about provisions of the deal that could affect name, image and likeness (NIL) payments to student-athletes. She also voiced concern that future college athletes might be restricted by the pending revenue agreement, which will last 10 years. Currently, boosters can provide NIL payments to athletes that essentially serve as salaries. If they want to face that, it’s a decision they have to make.”The settlement would pay billions of dollars to current and former NCAA athletes.

The unemployment rate also fell slightly, to 4.2% from 4.3% in July. For example, average job growth was 116,000 over the past three months; the three-month average was 211,000 a year ago. The unemployment rate has also steadily risen, from 3.4% as recently as April 2023. In other words, many more Americans entered the job market and looked for work; they're counted as unemployed until they find a job. That said, the job hunt has become more challenging for job seekers than in the recent past, according to Bunker.

New York CNN —Most of the 10,000 hotel workers who went on strike during the busy Labor Day weekend have returned to work Wednesday, but one group of 700 union members in San Diego will stay on strike for the foreseeable future. Those workers, employed at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, will remain on strike until there is a contract agreement, their union, Unite Here, says. The union has not ruled out using the same rolling strikes strategy this time, or expanding the strike to other locations. The strategy is intended to help workers keep as many days of pay as possible during a contract negotiation. Beyond the hotel workers, limited duration strikes have been used to win labor deals for school employees in Los Angeles, health care workers at Kaiser Permanente, janitors, nursing home employees and other workers in Minnesota who went on strike together in March.
