PSG coach Enrique hoping for solution to Mbappe dispute
  + stars: | 2023-08-11 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Aug 11 (Reuters) - Manager Luis Enrique said on Friday he hopes Paris Saint-Germain can find a solution to a dispute with Kylian Mbappe, noting the Ligue 1 club have prior experience in resolving contract issues with the French star. This is not the first time PSG and Mbappe have been involved in a contract standoff. Asked about Mbappe ahead of Saturday's season-opening home match against Lorient, Enrique told reporters: "It's a subject we've come across before and a solution was found between the club and the player. "He's not a PSG player yet, he won't be here tomorrow. Not 100%, but 99% he's a PSG player," Enrique said.

X, formerly known as Twitter, is getting a new feature: video calls. CEO Linda Yaccarino said the update is part of Elon Musk's rebrand of Twitter into an everything app. "Even when we announced that I was joining the company, I was joining the company to partner with Elon to transform Twitter into X," Yaccarino told CNBC. Musk's vision for an everything app named X dates back to his days at PayPal at the turn of the millennium. After ending the video, Musk posted that X's live video feature "now works reasonably well."

The largest island, Tenerife, received 4% more tourists in June than in the pre-pandemic 2019. But there were 22% fewer Germans, a clear sign of how the energy crisis and economic woes have weighed on travel decisions. Meanwhile, hotels in traditional hotspots for German tourists, such as the town of Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife, are now filling up with "weather tourists". This year, 18% fewer Germans went on summer holidays than in 2019, according to Germany's tourism industry group DRV. According to Spanish official data, in the first half of 2023, 14% fewer Germans visited Tenerife than in 2019.

[1/41] Aug 6, 2023; San Diego, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers left fielder Enrique Hernandez (8) hits an RBI double against the San Diego Padres during the ninth inning at Petco Park. But the Dodgers second baseman went the other way on an 0-2 fastball, just reaching the seats in right for his fifth homer. Enrique Hernandez opened the Dodgers' second with a single and moved to third on a one-out single by Miguel Rojas. But the Dodgers appealed and Hernandez was ruled safe because Sanchez blocked the plate before he had the ball -- making it 3-0. The Padres cut the deficit to 6-2 when Jake Cronenworth hit his ninth homer of the season off Ryan Brasier in the seventh.

Gálvez’s remarkable ascent comes as President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has levied a near-daily stream of attacks against her. The immensely popular López Obrador is barred under Mexican law from seeking re-election after completing his six-year term. However it dismissed a complaint from Gálvez that the president had violated laws against gender-based political violence. In the days since the ruling against him, López Obrador has moved between open disregard, winking half-measures, and begrudging obedience. López Obrador has sought to tie the candidate to the country’s historic ruling elite with the claims, which she has denied.

CNN —Donald Trump’s legal troubles deepened earlier this week when he was informed by special counsel Jack Smith that he’s the target of the criminal investigation into the aftermath of the 2020 election – the clearest sign yet that the former president could soon face more criminal charges. But without more detail, it’s hard to know exactly what shape the charges will take or what Trump 2020 election-related conduct they are aimed at. Among the potential charges Trump has been warned about is one pertaining to witness tampering, according to the Wall Street Journal and other outlets. Trump’s alleged involvement in a criminal conspiracy has been invoked in the litigation around the House select committee that investigated January 6’s pursuit of Trump lawyer John Eastman’s emails. That ruling pointed both to the obstruction of an official proceeding statute and the general conspiracy statute.

Vox has strongly opposed LGBTQ+ rights. Both Vox and the PP have promised to take action against some pro-LGBTQ+ measures passed by the left-wing government. Spain is fourth in the ranking of European countries' LGBTQ+ rights by advocacy group ILGA-Europe, but LGBTQ+ activists said a PP-Vox government would roll back their rights. A right-wing government could also target LGBTQ+ rights by failing to implement existing laws, said Uge Sangil, head of LGBTQ+ umbrella group, FELGTB. CNN —Members of the right-wing extremist group, the Proud Boys, have been ordered to pay more than a million dollars as part of a civil suit judgment involving the destruction of property in December 2020 at the predominantly Black campus of the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, DC. DC Superior Court Judge Neal E. Kravitz approved Friday’s default judgment against Proud Boys members Joseph R. Biggs, Enrique Tarrio, Jeremy Bertino and John Turano, as well as the group’s limited liability corporation. In a blistering order, Kravitz described the “highly orchestrated” and “hateful and overtly racist conduct” from members of the Proud Boys during the “attack” on the Metropolitan AME church, in which a Black Lives Matter sign owned by the church was allegedly destroyed. A request for comment on the judgment has also been made to the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church. According to Kravitz’s order, on December 12, 2020, several people in Proud Boys regalia “leaped over Metropolitan AME’s fence, entered the church’s property, and went directly to the Black Lives Matter sign.
