SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) — Ruth Ashton Taylor, a trailblazing journalist who was the first female newscaster to work in television on the West Coast, has died. Taylor died Thursday at an assisted living facility in San Rafael, California, according to her family. Conklin said her mother was born in Long Beach in 1922 and had a career in radio and television news that spanned more than 50 years. Taylor earned a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award in 1982 and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1990. In addition to Laurel Conklin, Taylor is survived by two other daughters plus a stepson, a grandson and granddaughter-in-law and a great-grandson.

NEW YORK (AP) — Eddie Izzard is returning to a New York stage this winter for an ambitious version of “Hamlet.” It's ambitious because the actor-comedian will be the only one on stage. Izzard will play all the William Shakespeare parts in a one-person staging adapted by Izzard's brother, Mark, and directed by Selena Cadell. Performances at Greenwich House Theater run from Jan. 25-March 3. “You’re just at the edge of your skill set and pushing out even further.”This “Hamlet” will ask Izzard to play noblemen, women, ghosts, soldiers, courtiers, lovers and fools. Earlier this year, Izzard said she was adding Suzy to her name but would remain known as Eddie Izzard in public.

Tyler Christopher, an actor best known for his long-running role on the TV soap opera “General Hospital,” has died. A former co-star, Maurice Benard, said on Instagram that Mr. Christopher had died Tuesday morning in his San Diego apartment because of a “cardiac event.” Mr. Christopher’s death was also confirmed by his manager, Chi Muoi Lo. Mr. Christopher won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2016 for best lead actor as Stefan DiMera on “Days of Our Lives,” another soap opera. He is best known for playing Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital” from 1996 to 2016, while also appearing in several other TV shows and movies. “Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”

The cause and manner of Perry's death are to be determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office, following completion of an autopsy with toxicology tests. Perry's death came one year after publication of his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," which chronicled his decades-long struggle with addition to prescription painkillers and alcohol. CNN —Dame Maggie Smith, the British actress acclaimed for her appearances both on stage and in cinema, has taken on a new role — and this time it’s in the world of luxury fashion. Loewe has cast the 88-year-old, known for roles such as Professor McGonagall in the “Harry Potter” film franchise, in its spring/summer 2024 pre-collection campaign.
