The Israeli military has already withdrawn from the area twice after saying, both times, that it had crushed Hamas there. A drone fired over the weekend slipped through Israeli air defenses and struck Netanyahu’s beach house some 50 miles from the Lebanese border. Netanyahu’s reluctance to strike a ceasefire deal, even now after securing several military victories, has angered many in Israel. “Ending the Gaza war and the Lebanon war is not an option for his political partners in the coalition. It's a dynamic that has forced many election officials out of the industry, while those who remain have taken in some cases dramatic steps to protect poll workers and voters ahead of Election Day. Some poll workers are also receiving pay bumps as incentives to stay on through a stressful voting period. In interviews, county and state election officials shared details of security plans with NBC News. The county allocated money for so-called panic buttons that would allow election workers to quickly contact authorities in emergencies. They decided to give police radios to election workers instead.

The lawsuit alleges that Strum was demanding $50 million from Lasry or she threatened to make things "really, really, ugly." In the suit, Lasry, the former owner of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks and a longtime Democratic megadonor, alleges that his former employee, Gina Strum, was trying to extort him for $50 million. The suit states that Lasry rebuffed Strum's advances, but that did not stop the flow of texts. "Ms. Strum wrongly asserted that Ms. Gardner's 2022 surgery should have been disclosed to Avenue's investors, because according to Ms. Strum, Ms. Gardner was in poor health and had not been working for the last two years," the suit reads. "When Ms. Strum received the attention and the money she sought, she routinely complimented Plaintiffs," the suit states.

CNN —Emotional accounts from relatives of the victims and survivors of the partial collapse of a boat dock gangway on Georgia’s Sapelo Island and a newly released video of the frantic rescue efforts paint a dramatic picture of Saturday’s incident. The seven victims were among the dozens of people who traveled to Sapelo Island last weekend to celebrate the Gullah-Geechee, a community of descendants of Africans who were enslaved on coastal plantations in the South. Yvette Jackson, one of the seniors on a family trip visiting Sapelo Island, barely made it across the gangway before the collapse and said at Tuesday’s news conference, “It was the most horrific thing I have ever experienced.”A portion of the gangway that collapsed Saturday afternoon remains visible on Sapelo Island in McIntosh County, Georgia, on October 20, 2024. “I just stood there, looking down in that water and saw all those people.”“And then it hit me, Regina, Regina, where’s Regina? “Nobody knows what it’s like to go under the water and let somebody help you out and bring you out.

He also found that women will comprise nearly 52% of all eligible voters, which should help Harris. (North Carolina is the sole swing state where he found that they had increased as a portion of eligible voters since 2020.) The groups that Harris needs to give her winning margins are the non-White and college-educated White voters (especially women in each case). “I think Gen Z women, including White women, are very committed to an inclusive democracy,” she said. But this history clearly shows it is likely that the changes in the composition of the eligible electorate Frey has documented will closely track the shifts in the configuration of the actual electorate.

South Korea says 1,500 North Korean troops have been sent to aid Russia in its war in Ukraine. They also said that North Korean troops could find themselves little more than cannon fodder. Other experts said North Korean troops would experience the roughest end of Russia's notoriously brutal military hierarchy, which marks some as expendable. "The grim reality is that the North Korean troops will likely simply be cannon fodder for Russia," said Edward Howell, a North Korea expert at the University of Oxford. Billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Tudor Jones is raising alarms about the U.S. government's current fiscal deficit and the increased spending promised by both presidential candidates, saying the bond market may force the government's hand after the election in addressing it. "We are going to be broke really quickly unless we get serious about dealing with our spending issues," Jones told CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin on Tuesday. The founder and chief investment officer of Tudor Investment said he was worried that government spending could cause a big sell-off in the bond market, spiking interest rates. He said he plans to not own fixed income and will be betting against the longer-dated part of the bond market. Jones founded his hedge fund more than four decades ago and rose to prominence by correctly predicting the stock market crash of 1987.

The launch of margin trading follows the recent approval of the product, after Robinhood held conversations with Britain's financial regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Margin trading is a rarity in the U.K., where regulators see it as more controversial because of the risks involved to users. Some platforms in the country limit margin trading for only high-net-worth individuals or businesses. In the case of margin trading, investors can use borrowed money to increase the size of their trades. At the time of launch, Robinhood was unable to offer U.K. users the option of margin trading, pending discussions with the FCA.

PHOENIX — Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban said Saturday while campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris that he would campaign against her if he thought she would tax wealthy people’s “unrealized gains,” which is part of the tax plan she has endorsed. The comments came at a town hall event attended by local Arizona entrepreneurs, which Cuban headlined as a surrogate for the Harris-Walz campaign. Toward the end of the event, a man asked Cuban, “Quick question: What about unrealized gains?”Cuban assured the audience that Harris wouldn’t tax unrealized gains. That is true: While Harris’ campaign issued a blanket endorsement of Biden’s 2025 budget proposal, it hasn’t actually spoken specifically about taxing unrealized gains. A few possessions later, Tennessee sealed the win with a Will Brooks interception of Jalen Milroe with 1:24 to play. Though the Tide won last year in Tuscaloosa, Saturday marked Tennessee’s second consecutive win against Alabama at Neyland Stadium, something that hadn’t happened since 2004 and 2006. The Vols jumped to 56 percent after the win, and the Tide fell to 53 percent, according to The Athletic’s Austin Mock.
