Nov 13 (Reuters) - Donald Trump Jr. testified on Monday about what he called the "sexiness" of his father's real estate portfolio, in his second time taking the stand in the former U.S. president's civil fraud trial. Donald Jr. said the "sexiness" of his father's real estate projects attracted licensing deals with other developers who wanted to emulate his style. "Let him go ahead and talk about how great the Trump Organization is," said Engoron, who has defended himself during the trial from allegations of bias from Trump and his lawyers. Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka Trump said they were not involved in preparing their father's financial statements and left bookkeeping at the Trump Organization to accountants. Engoron has ordered the dissolution of companies that control pillars of Trump's real estate portfolio, including Trump Tower in Manhattan.

Judge Arthur Engoron sided with Donald Trump’s attorneys, overruling an objection from the New York attorney general’s office to admit a PowerPoint presentation showcasing the history of the Trump Organization. The presentation, titled “The Trump story,” also included photos of Donald Trump with his father, Fred Trump, as well as sleek photos of various Trump buildings. The PowerPoint included Trump's purchase of Mar-a-Lago in 1985, which Trump Jr. described as "one of the few sort of American castles." Assistant Attorney General Kevin Wallace objected to the presentation, claiming the text descriptions were coaching the witness. The judge has also sided with Trump's lawyers during the trial, but this signals the judge is going to give a lot of leeway to both sides in their presentation.

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president, will testify Monday in his father’s civil fraud trial, making a return appearance in a proceeding that has featured a parade of family members on the witness stand. He is being called by defense lawyers as they begin their arguments in the trial, which began five weeks ago and could last until mid-December. The case against Donald J. Trump stems from a lawsuit brought by New York’s attorney general, Letitia James, which accuses Mr. Trump and other defendants, including his companies and his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, of fraudulently inflating the value of assets to obtain favorable loans and insurance deals. The state rested its case last week. In his first appearance, on Nov. 1, Donald Trump Jr. testified after being called by prosecutors that he had no direct involvement in annual financial statements that his family’s business gave banks and insurers, despite language in the statements suggesting that he was partially responsible for them.

He said he never worked on the annual financial statements at the heart of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit. James alleges Donald Trump, his company and executives including Eric and Donald Jr. exaggerated his wealth by billions of dollars on financial statements given to banks, insurers and others. On Monday, Trump Jr. will be questioned first by the defense lawyers representing him, his father and other defendants. When he became president in 2017, Donald Trump handed day-to-day management of his company to Eric and Donald Trump Jr. and named Trump Jr. as a trustee of a trust he established to hold his assets while in office. “I had an obligation to listen to the people with intimate knowledge of those things,” Trump Jr. testified.

PinnedDonald Trump Jr., the eldest son of the former president, began testifying again Monday in the civil fraud case against his father and the family business, giving expansive answers to questions from his own lawyer about the Trump Organization. But on Monday he brushed aside objections from lawyers for the state, who rested their case last week. In his first appearance, on Nov. 1, Donald Trump Jr. testified that he had no direct involvement in annual financial statements that his family’s business gave banks and insurers, despite language in the statements suggesting that he was partially responsible for them. Donald J. Trump has also testified in the trial, as have Eric and Ivanka Trump, although unlike them she is not a defendant. The family members’ testimony has drawn the spotlight to a proceeding that has primarily been a long slog through the minutiae of Trump Organization finances.

Donald Trump Jr. returned to the witness stand Monday as the defense kicks off its case in the $250 million civil fraud trial taking aim at former president Donald Trump's New York business empire. Defense attorneys began laying out their case four days after failing in their latest bid to have New York Attorney General Letitia James' fraud claims thrown out. James accuses Trump Sr., his adult sons Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, the Trump Organization and its top executives of fraudulently inflating the values of Trump's assets in order to boost his net worth and reap an array of financial benefits. State lawyers rested their case in chief last week, following testimony from Trump and three of his adult children.

Now it's Ivanka Trump's turn to face questioning in the civil fraud trial that is publicly probing into the family business. Just 30 minutes after Trump was sworn in, Judge Arthur Engoron – frustrated by the former president’s non-answers – turned to the former president’s defense team for help. Trump is known for being long-winded and talking around an issue instead of answering questions directly. “This is not a political rally.”But Trump’s two lead attorneys, Chris Kise and Alina Habba, did little to help. “This is a very unfair trial,” Trump said from the witness stand. That narrative is a markedly different one than Trump’s two adult sons provided in testimony last week.

Trump Can’t Resist Turning Testimony Into Tirade

Trump, at times seemingly unable to stop himself from melting into a temper tantrum, claimed repeatedly, “It's election interference.”“We have a very hostile judge,” he said at one point. I wanted a jury.”To be clear, this particular type of case proceeding – determining damages in a civil fraud case – doesn’t use juries. That narrative is a markedly different one than Trump’s two adult sons provided in testimony last week. But Engoron already dismissed that defense in finding Trump liable for fraud. The defense team is expected to call many of the witnesses who have already testified, including Trump himself and his two adult sons.

On the issue of intent, in last week’s testimony, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump both attempted to shift the blame onto their accountants. First, the judge has already rejected a key route Trump tried to avoid an admission that he intended to defraud the victims. He fined Trump’s lawyers for doing just that. Again, the attorney general wins whether Trump denies it, or whether he doubles down on what the judge has called Trump’s “fantasy world” financial claims. If the past is prologue, Trump likely will continue to deny liability: Blowing smoke is simply in the nature of a narcissist.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump has testified in court as a football owner, casino builder and airline buyer. Trump has testified in court in at least eight trials since 1986, according to an Associated Press review of court records and news coverage. They show clear parallels between Trump as a witness and Trump as a president and current candidate for the office. Trump testified that his $365 million purchase, later approved, would be a “major boost in morale” for employees. In his April deposition, Trump soberly described the presidency as the “most important job in the world” before bragging about saving lives by preventing North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un from launching a nuclear attack.

"The threat of, and actual, violence resulting from heated political rhetoric is well-documented," Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron wrote in a fiery court order Friday afternoon. Trump has violated that gag order twice since the trial began last month. They have been "falsely accusing her of bias against them and of improperly influencing the ongoing bench trial," Engoron wrote. Violating the gag order "shall result in serious sanctions," he added. He has fined Trump a total of $15,000 for twice violating the gag order that was imposed early in the case.

CNN —Ivanka Trump on Friday withdrew her appeal of a judge’s order requiring her to testify at her father’s civil fraud trial next week after an appellate court refused to pause her testimony. Ivanka Trump’s testimony comes after she was previously dismissed as a co-defendant in the New York case against former President Donald Trump, two of his adult sons and his company. On Thursday night, an appeals court denied Ivanka Trump’s request to postpone her testimony until her lawyers could make arguments before the panel that she shouldn’t be required to appear. Ivanka Trump’s brothers, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, appeared in court this week. The civil trial began in October, soon after Engoron found in September that Trump and his co-defendants were liable for “persistent and repeated” fraud.

Trump Testifying Is a Test All Its Own

Since the trial began in late September, Trump has been fined twice by Judge Arthur Engoron for breaking a gag order that bars him from making public comments about the judge’s staff, stormed out of the courtroom and been made to watch as two of his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, testified this week. His daughter Ivanka Trump is slated to testify on Tuesday. Both sons held the title of executive vice president after their father was elected president. Eric Trump, who maintained more direct involvement in the company, provided more detailed testimony and was at times chippy in his responses to prosecutors who sought to tease out his specific role. During testimony on Friday, he acknowledged he was aware of the Trump Organization's statements of financial condition as far back as 2013 after repeatedly denying knowledge of them.
