So she and Maggie had focused their hopes on getting a private scholarship. She considered paying $700 for an online class, heavily promoted on Facebook, that promised to show parents how to find college scholarships. Every year, hundreds of thousands of students like Maggie devote countless hours to the hunt for private scholarships to pay for college. AdvertisementWith the combination of institutional aid and private scholarship she received, Maggie managed to cut her original college bill from $15,000 to $8,000. The illness is treatable, but it's likely to cost the family $5,000 out of pocket — effectively wiping out the financial value of the private scholarship Maggie received.

A JetBlue flight made an emergency landing in Kansas on Saturday after pilots were alerted to smoke in the cargo hold, but an inspection revealed it was a false alarm, the airline said. The plane descended safely and landed “without incident,” the airline said in a statement. Flight 1189 was traveling from New York to San Diego when the pilot announced that an alert was received for fire or smoke in the cargo hold area, according to passenger Seth Odell. “The pilot came on [the intercom] and let us know that he was seeing an alert for smoke in the cargo bay,” Odell said. It’s been a typical fire season in California so far based on overall statistics. In early June, abnormally dry conditions only existed in about 1% of California, according to the US Drought Monitor. Additionally, Republican members of the North Carolina congressional delegation, including Sens. The political fallout from Robinson’s past comments could be particularly tough for Trump because of the importance of North Carolina as one of seven key swing states on the presidential map. Replays seemed to show the ball missed Profar, Profar appeared to be upset that he wouldn’t have the chance to bat and the Astros bench couldn’t believe the call. Antimicrobial resistance happens when pathogens like bacteria and fungi develop the ability to evade the medications used to kill them. A death attributable to antimicrobial resistance was directly caused by it, while a death associated with AMR may have another cause that was exacerbated by the antimicrobial resistance. For this combination – the antibiotic methicillin and the bacteria S. aureus – the number of attributable deaths nearly doubled from 57,200 in 1990 to 130,000 in 2021. The researchers estimated that, in 2050, the number of global deaths attributable to antimicrobial resistance could reach 1.9 million, and those associated with antimicrobial resistance could reach 8.2 million. Strathdee saw firsthand the effects that antimicrobial resistance can have on health when her husband nearly died from a superbug infection.
